First-half inflows of $321 billion also doubled the prior year. Revenue rose 31%. The margin hit a 5-year best. Roughly $5 trillion of assets added in 2 years. $13.9 trillion in March became $15.3 trillion by June.
The arithmetic of the quarter is the whole thesis. Assets rose about $1.45 trillion in 3 months. Only $192 billion was new money. Roughly $1.26 trillion was the market itself rising, the S&P gained 15% in the quarter. So 87% of the growth required no salesman, no stock picker, no decision at all.
A paycheck enters a retirement plan. The plan buys the index. The index buys every stock in proportion. Prices rise, assets rise, more paychecks arrive. The largest money manager in history is, to a first approximation, not managing. It is metering. The fee X-ray says the same thing.
Alternatives are 3% of assets but 15% of fees. The passive trillions are the moat. The private billions are the margin.
Two facts keep this honest. The milestone owes nothing to crypto. BlackRock's digital asset arm shrank 39% over the year, $45.8 billion of market losses swallowed $15.1 billion of inflows, and its Bitcoin funds just posted their worst month on record. And the meme flooding the timeline, that the firm can buy countries, is wrong on its face. This is client money, mostly locked to indexes, with votes increasingly passed back to the clients themselves.
The stranger truth is that nobody owns it. Tens of trillions sit on autopilot, buying whatever the index says at whatever the price is, while the loudest critics wire in $2.1 billion a day through their own retirement accounts. Rhetoric bearish. Wires long.
For a century the question was who owns the means of production. The answer arrived quietly inside a quarterly earnings release. An algorithm with $15 trillion and no opinion.
The milestone is not that one firm got this big. It is that getting this big no longer requires anyone to have one.

Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie - Video: Though my amendment to strike $3.3 billion in aid to Israel from the State Dept Approps bill did not pass, 104 House Members voted in favor of it. The tide is changing.
Americans want their tax dollars to be spent improving things here at home, not waging war and genocide.

Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie - We just introduced Epstein Files Transparency Act II.
Among other things, it gives STATE AGs necessary access to Epstein files required to prosecute co-conspirators under STATE LAW.

Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie - Video: Today in @JudiciaryGOP, I expressed support for the Congressional Records Protection Act, but it should go further.
We should recognize that the Fourth Amendment requires judicial warrants to protect the privacy of all Americans.

Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie - Today we’re marking up a bill in the Judicary Committee called “H.R. 9191, the National Fossil Act.”
I haven’t read it yet, but I’m assuming this has something to do with Senators.
