A valid argument for some detail sculpting work being saved, but surfacing and actual structural work is still a massive amount of work to be done. And animatronic puppets are high skill handcrafted work and not something you can shit out of a printer. Designing them to be printable would be even more work and you would still have to do a massive amount of finishing.

They are genuinely wasting talent.
