Monarchies worked, with capitalism, long before Democracies, the illuminist propaganda is a massive distortion lens on history.
That said, while autocratic capitalism "can stay afloat" unchallenged, on a competition with (a proper well regulated, in the roman sense) "democratic" capitalism it will be absolutely crushed.
Freedom is a valuable commodity. Humanity has crossed oceans, excavated mountains and shed lakes of blood for it.

It goes back to "being allowed to prosper" issue.
