Schizo rant: the prices of cars that aren't hyper-economic garbage are getting higher, and it will make car ownership a surrogate activity, like sports or game streaming. 
You can see a good example of this with Toyota's debut of the GR GT. All the car enthusiasts sperging about this car they could never afford and comparing it to other cars they could never afford. Will Lil' Niggey buy one? Will my favorite egirl buy one and have it painted pink? ZOMG this is very important.

imo it's different for Europeans. Their cities were built before cars became a thing, so small cars are adapted to that environment.
