The discussion around AI/Automation/UBI has a few conceptual blindspots.
Automation leads to economy being an obsolete concept since production is so cheap and requires to little labor. 
The crisis here is not that "humans no longer have a role", the crisis here is that we can no longer have a society organized around economy.
Then the assumption is that we have to make the government dispense UBI, socialism/communism. But that is a wrong assumption, the government is also a product of an economics based society.
And we don't have to invent a new form of organization around automation, we have existing and trusted methods of social organization that predate and exist in the world such as the religious method and the military method.

Neither theological nor militaristic societies will be affected by the end of Economy.
You will have theologies or paramilitary societies that will maintain the means of automation and distribute the benefits.
