Carl Atwood Wylie is an American engineer. Chief Engineer at Goodyear Aerophysics.

He is known as the inventor of the solar sail concept (1951), and also as the inventor of synthetic aperture radar (1951).

An Arizona engineer invented synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and with it the modern era of intelligence. And his idea of a solar sail is still not really used, although, recently, NASA completed the deployment in orbit of the spacecraft ACSSS — a small satellite attached to a giant solar sail.

Surprisingly, there are no photos of him on the English Internet, but they are full on the Chinese Internet.
