The name Jack was used by a journalist writing a fake letter to create a media narrative. As Crowley said it, "Jack" had found a way to become invisible. Invisible by being completely outside the stereotype of the kind of person who does this. "Jack" could have been caught literally red-handed and still not been suspected. Such are social conventions. The other letter is real.
