When using the 10ten Japanese plugin dictionary, the meaning becomes clearer and it's exposed the characters when viewed as kanji have more meanings that those conventional translations. It does not seem to say "the way which can be named is not the eternal way", rather

feichang, when I asked Bing in specific about this, does not seem to be a mere negation of eternal, but  "not ordinary, extraordinary, extreme" is more likely. So the first line should better be "The way which is possible, is the extraordinary way". Consequently: "the name which is possible(exists) is the extraordinary name". So the special thing about the way and the name for it, is that it exists, or can be walked.
