I don't think they're ever going to put that kind of character in a kids show, it would be like throwing a strobe light into a room full of people with epilepsy.

I think he'll be around, minor characters such as he aren't really required to maintain regular appearances as consistently. They would just need him for some form of Luan related plot. 

It is weird they didn't just make force of habits a Luna/Luan/Lori episode, I figured they just wanted to use Gavin since he was new and doesn't seem to have a lot of reason to exist besides including Leni in couple stories.
