> Alice-slime's abilities which are a bit exotic. It has severe bonuses but also massive drawbacks, I still think it will be fun for everyone.
Fun is the #1 importance and goal for DM. If this condition is not met, rules and regulations are useless.
I seek balance within the adventurer group, so if one is OP in some ways and they have severe drawbacks in others, then it should be balanced within reason. Additionally, we're not throwing stones here because our princess Ashley wants to be special too. So far she wants to be a sorcerer with shapeshifting ability which is beyond the scope of a sorcerer unless you really stretch it. So we welcome your absurd abilities and intend to match you somewhat.
[Ashley] You'll see, I'll be completely worthless without a backup ability to actually bring DPS to the team. I have nothing at level 1 besides 2 measly spells per encounter and I'll be summoning something ridiculously weak to start so I'll need to do more than use improvised weapons at a disadvantage. Trust me, wait till you see my stats and you'll understand why I need a backup form once per encounter.
> Poor Yulya, she'll have the most complex job.
I disagree with that though we will occasionally need healing, she will also likely be a frontline fighter as a cleric with medium to heavy armor. Her ability to heal during an encounter is very helpful, but with our version of a resting system, it won't nearly be so bad between encounters. Bear played a very old revision apparently, one that didn't even have the capability of full healing on rest so clerics were essential to survive. In this version she'll simply cast whatever spell she feels is necessary and if she keeps track of her MP then all the better or I'll do it for her and report it each turn. She'll also probably wield a blunt weapon which will be necessary at all levels but especially at level 1-4.
> How's Ashley coming along?
I hope you weren't waiting for her as an example because she's waiting on you to determine what's reasonable.
I see you three as very fun variants and I'm very much looking forward to testing your mettle.
[Ashley] she didn't add this to the end of her statement, but let me quote her properly: Joy - "I'm very much looking forward to testing your mettle. *evil laughter intensifies*"
[Ashley] This is going to be awesome, I can't wait! Remember too that Joy needs to read the DM manual, we're still skimming through the player's manual for my sake. We have two jobs here.
> I hope she's smart and charming, we lack a rogue character and none of us has much int or social skills.
She wants to be a sorcerer undead summoner... shapeshifter, so her primary ability for summoning will be none other than Charisma. We need further study to know what's needed for a shapeshifter if that will even be allowed or how that will work for balance. I too think it's necessary based on her character background and how she can only cast summoning spells as a sorcerer. So that will be fun to craft.
We will go as far as making her progression tree through level 5 as everyone else is instructed to do for these custom classes and then everyone will have to be balanced as a group.
> Yulya maybe but she'll have her hands full with other stuff than diplomacy.
A cleric needs Wisdom and Constitution more than Charisma, so she shouldn't be concerned with diplomacy.
In case anyone's feelings are hurt by having a low charisma, keep in mind it's no different than dexterity or strength, it's not a measure of your beauty per say. My advice is to use the ability rolls to your advantage. Also, it is in this version that you can add two ability points per every 4 levels or as stated in your character class level chart so if you're so vein or need additional charisma for some reason, I suggest you save it for higher levels. DnD is challenging, it is likely someone will be knocked unconscious and monsters don't accept parlay.
