Then get a short bow, it will vastly improve your survivability at this level.
The source I found said that yes a monk can use a short bow.

Short bow already does this.

You could shoot a bow, approach an enemy then do an unarmed attack in the same turn, and also target other enemies even when engaged with another up close as long as they're not blocking the other enemy.
You can also orbit an enemy without triggering their opportunity attack but you cannot do that and then get a bonus for flanking that same turn, you can however approach and engage an enemy to flank them or position and flank them with a bow on the same turn. SheShe allowed the ability to orbit so Bear could get out of the way to give Autumn a clear shot with her bow.
> The spear is unbeatable as a 2-handed weapon with 1d8+2 plus another unarmed strike with 1d4!
Yes, 1d8 if thrown, 1d6 if used as a melee weapon but the optimal range is only 20 ft.
I also won't allow you to throw it at the enemy you are touching (5ft) whereas a bow you could.
> But what about Javelins vs Darts?
Don't worry about 1 in 6 chance of being destroyed, I upped it to 1 in 20 if you roll a 1.
Darts same, 1 in 20.
I think any of these options are a possibility for you, but a short bow has a longer optimal range (80) with 1d6. Later when you have money, a large composite short bow will cost 150 gold and have nearly the range of a longbow, well worth it.
In my opinion, Cat should get a longbow and use that at range until the enemy gets closer.
