So Ulla dual wields elvish swords and was able to land two hits on bear, she had an ability to boost melee with magic for 1d6 per slot each, so she did that and all told she did pretty massive damage on Bear, bringing him down to within reach of Hali's specialized attack. But then Hali missed and was left either to defend Ulla, now out of mana, or save herself by disengaging and flying out his maul's reach. Ulla urged her to leave her and she did, so Bear easily took out Ulla. (no one was actually harmed except Bear).
Next Hali cast Zephr strike, not just for the advantage on hit but the extra force damage. She has an attack called "swoop" that lets her have additional force damage for that too, and deadly strike which lets her expend mana to boost her attack 1d6 so now she was within range of being able to take Bear out with another hit.
But Bear had one chance to take her out with his great Bow 1d12+3+1d8force, yes Great bows are crazy and use special flight arrows but they require a certain strength to use and are heavy.
Well he missed again! So Hali had her chance, hit him and downed him with the exact right amount of damage.
So the girls were able to take out Bear but only because they were full power and just rested. Bear's Maul is a monster, consistently hitting for nearly 30 damage with Zephr Strike because it is [3d6+6 + Dreadful strike 1d4 psychic + 1d8 Zephyr strike.] He can also use hoard breaker and get in two hits or Topple and knock the enemy prone like wolves do.
As it turns out, 2 level 2's together can take out a level 4 and the XP is about the same as well because of the bonus experience for multiple enemies.
Bear and the girls next took out 6 orcs and helped in rescuing a "orc princess" which is what they call it when a group of orcs kidnap a girl. As Bear put it, "half orcs don't grow on trees." Still it was quite uncomfortable to think about.
