>>/6895/ Just so you know, in most small settlements the nobles run the shops, they're the only ones with enough capital to setup, stock and trade in a place where you can't get financial assistance. They become the bank, the loan officer, the shop owner, land lord and eventually commission the garrison, towers, palisades, walls, and so on as the city grows. Without nobility, you have easy pickings for other nobility to swoop in.
