It's like a painter spending time and money to paint a picture, then printing copies of his picture and selling those copied as the original, and expecting people to keep buying the copies to fund the expenses of creating the first original picture and then getting more money as a profit.

Maybe the issue at the base, is the industry spending and wasting too much money to produce mid garbage which is not worth buying. 
If they did spend less to produce, if they were smaller and not bloated cargos of incompetents and leeches, they wouldn't be so eternally butthurt by piracy taking one more copy of the original (or a copy of a copy) without paying their bribe nor funding their incompetence.
