I find this sort of stuff the most helpful, when I am not actively trying to come up with a scenario to daydream about, but just let the fantasy come to me without trying to control it. When you do it like this, it’s as if you are talking to your subconscious mind. I never really wanted to be with the person or persons that were part of my daydreams Those people were more like a canvas that I used to project my inner parts onto. And once I started to actively communicate with my inner parts through art, my daydreams became less frequent.

The problem is that some people never gain this awareness and instead become obsessive about the person they have daydreams about. It’s caused by an inability or refusal to communicate with yourself. At best it will keep you in a place of self-loathing and at worst it turns you in a creepy stalker.
