you can laugh, but what I said is absolutely true as long as you don't work in the entertainment industry or mainstream media. even in that case, you still need to have some good looks or some very good communication skills in order to build a strong following and do some fruitful social networking, which is quite different from orbiting relatively successful people and chatting on the internet. ken is into obscure and unusual stuff, which makes standing out even more difficult, because in that sort of environment you actually need some sort of talent to work on and create your own niche of audience. nobody in the real world is going to care for long much about some nondescript and quirky shit we've all seen or listened to a million times. there are countless musicians that make bland retro music and there are lots and lots of autists who obsess over some special interest nobody else cares about. you've got to have something to differentiate yourself from all that.
as I said, you think it's all about connections because most of you are neets and shut-ins, and you've never even been around people who've actually done something with their lives, let alone done something worthwhile yourselves, so you don't really know what is like. I'm not saying that connections aren't important, they are, but arguing that it all boils down to that is just ignorant and simplistic, and probably an excuse for your own failures and inertia.
