I've been playing around with chatGPT, using it to write poems. It seems to have very little ability to use metre correctly and is overly strict with rhyming. It seems as though the algorithm selects a word to use, and uses a rhyming dictionary to select another word that rhymes with that and constructs a somewhat coherent sentence using them, with little ability to see if it fits at all within the context of the poem. Here is one example:
Once upon a time, in a land not so far,
There lived a man named Weber, who drove a Corvette car.
He loved to eat and lounge about,
But his health was failing, of that there was no doubt.
His friends, the neets, would often come by,
Bringing junk food and goon, oh my!
They’d sit and chat and watch TV,
While Weber ate chips, his waistline grew, you see.
One day, his car began to sputter,
Weber was stranded, feeling like a nutter.
But then, a man named Dan appeared,
His vile venom, Weber feared.
Dan said, “Your car is old and weak,
You need a new one, come take a peek.”
But Weber knew he couldn’t afford,
A new car, his finances were floored.
Then along came Monk the Mong,
With wisdom and strength, he helped Weber along.
He said, “You must take care of your health,
Or else you’ll end up in poor wealth.”
Reluctantly, Weber went to the doc,
Feeling nervous, he wanted to walk.
But the doctor was kind and patient too,
He gave Weber a plan to follow through.
With healthy foods and exercise each day,
Weber began to feel better in every way.
His friends, the neets, saw the change,
And joined in too, it was not so strange.
Now Weber’s health is in tip-top shape,
His Corvette runs smoothly, no need to escape.
Dan’s vile venom, he learned to ignore,
And Monk the Mong, he thanks forevermore.
