So a Jewish kid living in Germany in 1935 comes home from school, and says to his mother
"Hey mom, they had a census test at school and I didn't know what to put down, so I just put down 'German.'"
"Well," she replies snootily, "then I guess you'll have to eat potatoes and sauerkraut for dinner instead of the chicken and beef we're having."
He goes to his father, and tells him the same thing.
"Well," he scoffs, "I suppose you'll have to walk to school instead of driving with your brothers and I, won't you?"
And he goes to his grandmother, and says the same thing.
"Well," she sneers, "I guess you'll just have to wear hand-me-downs since I won't make you clothes, won't you?"
So at dinner the boy is sitting alone at the edge of the table eating his potatoes and sauerkraut, and his family asks "How are you enjoying being a German, Moshe?"
And he puts down his fork and says "Well I've only been a German for about four hours and I'm thinking of joining the SS."
