37 ml of DMSO and 28.5 ml of mentone are placed in the flask and, when stirred, the mass is cooled to 14 degrees, finely crushed potassium hydroxide is applied in an amount of 2 g and continues stirring for 30 minutes. Then, for 45 minutes, a drop-by solution of 18.4 g (17.6 ml) of benzaldehyde is added to 25-30 ml of DMSO, maintaining a temperature of 14-17 degrees. Then 3g of finely crushed potassium hydroxide is applied and the mixture is kept (stirring) for 3-4 hours at a temperature of 14-18 degrees.
Then the reaction mass is poured into a liter of ice water containing 5 ml of acetic acid, and left for 3-4 hours. The released oil is separated, the water layer is extracted in two portions of hexane 80 ml. The extract is combined with oil, washed with water and dried for 4 hours over calcined magnesium or sodium sulfate.
