I think João has been his partner in more specific climbing and TTing training. Not sure how it's now with Del Toro, but at one point they were supposedly the only two training directly under Sola. So they have spent a lot of time together.

I wouldn't read much into it, but Pogi is usually one of the first guys to publicly congratulate Almeida when he wins something. It's honestly hard to tell who Almeida is closest to in UAE. Probably the Oliveira twins. He likes Morgado, but there is a bit of an age gap. Besides the Portuguese, I've read he gets along well with Pogacar and Soler but not much more beyond that. Supposedly he got along well with FFB in the past.

However, as every attention payer knows, he didn't name any of his UAE teammates as his favourite teammate ever.

temperature and altitude change is also a ? and imo the the 6.4% gradient number is already not off to a great start because the start is a slightly descending false flat so he hits the climb at 57 kph 
if you just take the climb from the moment that momentum is gone and he's at a steady rhythm it's a 6.8% gradient until it flattens off in the last 200 meters

I'm in a rural area of the state of New York, enjoying a few days of relaxation, cycling, and vin (Finger Lakes region is known for Riesling). 

It's also home to a large group of Mennonites, a religious sect like the Amish. Floyd Landis was a Mennonite. Anyway, the peloton I saw was a group of teens and young men dressed like this on beater bikes going about 30 km/h uphill at a 9% gradient.

I got my thesis pre-examination reviews back, glowing reviews, both recommend graduating with honours. This bert is about to finally finish his Phd! Also my supervisor scammed a good european professor to serve as my opponent in the defence at the end of October. Now I just have to do all this tedious work like write the acknowledgements, write a "layman's abstract" for the university media team, contact the publishing house to get the physical copies, do all kinds of paperwork with the university and so on, but almost there.

It's the other way around we brought it from Asia, Chinese mao =cat + -cska -cske diminutive affix. Then Slavs take it from us. If you ask "official" Hungarian linguists they will say the version you found and posted tho. But nor this neither mine version makes sense because we have the word szöcske (=grasshopper) which according to them is a Hungarian word developed from the verb szökik = 1.escapes, 2.jumps.; on the other hand kecske = goat; taken from Turkish languages or Hungarian inner development from kecs = ??? + -ke diminutive affix...

And I forgot fecske = swallow/martin which they suggest is an onomatopoeic word of unknown origin, perhaps from fecseg = chat. with again the diminutive affix.
We have other animals with diminutive affix like cinke (some other bird), lepke (moth).
I also have to note -cska, -cske as I said, also diminutives, not just -ka, -ke.

What a day! First Finnish Avenir stage winner since Kari Myyryläinen and Joona Laukka. Even the Finnish state television put this into the sports news, which almost never happens with ciclismo. This is truly the start of the Finnish golden age of cycling with the best guys yet to come in junior ranks.

Feels like growing pains from becoming a big money team. Not much of a plan for all the cash available. Probably doesn't help that they always seem to fall one step short on all fronts besides, I guess, sprinting. Honestly, even with loads of money, it feels almost impossible to win a single one of the calendar's big races if you don't have one of 4-5 riders, and with all due respect to Mads, Skjelly, etc, they don't have one of those.

2019: won an ITT

2020: won an ITT and 3 road stages, stage 1 (no red jersey) and 2 other stages where Carapaz had the red

2021: won 2 ITTs and 2 road stages, Eiking had the red on both those stages

2022: won one road stage where Affini had the red because of the TTT (Roglic was s.t.), Fred Wright incident later

2023: won 2 road stages, Kuss'd

2024: won 3 road stages, Wout had red on the first one and O'Connor had it on the other two

The craziest part is that this isn't even a case of him only taking the red late into the race. More than once he took it early and then lost it before winning a road stage again.

After not winning the prologue it must feel like torture to just stay in the race all those stages until the TT with all the thoughts in his minds. Cannot imagine spending 2 weeks in the grupetto while having that constantly in your mind.

Also probably worth being closer to his family and not make them worry right. Stage 3 alone with all the hail and rain must have been stressful for them to watch or even just know he was riding it.

For me it was 6x10min with 1min breaks at 350-360W in the velodrome plus one similar effort on the road afterwards. Was supposed to do 2 more 10min efforts on the velo but my hamstrings started cramping up and I had to quit. Heavy RDLs were a mistake, still hard to ride aero even a week after the gym session

Yeah let's see how it goes next season, but I am now riding mostly on the TT bike and trying to get accustomed to the different position. My coach and I figure that a fall/winter of mostly TT bike will be really beneficial and still probably won't harm my road racing. With the baby and older kid it's going to be hard to do many races on the road (longer distance from home, longer races in general etc.) whereas most TTs are near and much shorter, so they fit the life situation a lot better.
I'll have to do some racing to really figure where I'm at, but my guess based on today's velo session (where I could hold just over 46km/h with sweetspot watts) is that I could probably do 20km TTs at around 47-48km/h, and that's usually top5 nationally around here. So my goal for next year is a top3 in the NC, probably a stretch but honestly aside from 1-2 guys the field is pretty even.

I am sorry, but you just need at least a 15k€ bike to be able to compete. What, you can't afford a 25k€ bike and a few wind tunnel trips, what are you a peasant? Honestly if you don't splurge at least 50k€ on bikes, skinsuits, helmets and wheels you have no business going over 40km/h, it is what it is
