I was certain that was what he paid for in the TT two days ago. Upon stricter a analysis, I've realised my foolishness. He was clearly only paying for his stage 8 2021 Tour de France 30km solo. By my new calculations, his 2024 Strade solo should be paid in the 2028 edition of Tre Valli Varesine, right before his 8th consecutive Lombardia win.

Nice one bert. Yeah that area is nice. My only negative is that the way from wine to purkersdorf isn't amazing (still rideable from a med point of view).
It's crazy how fast you go on your spez. If I average 200 watts on my 2016 defy I might reach 27 km/h kek

> the way from wine to purkersdorf isn't amazing
yeah thats the road I took yesterday and it was dogshit, swore me to never ride it again especially since I have to go all the way to nearly prater. the way I rode it today is a bit cumbersome but so worth it. gonna do the proppa 149km with your suggested loop on sunday

 >>/17194/
> It's crazy how fast you go on your spez
I am preparing for a time trial race in september again (KOTL), so now I try to ride exclusively in the drops (except on climbs of course), and with some time in proper aero position inbetween for as long as my triceps can hold it. that saves A LOT of watts.

I still blame that on the short crank meme. Works for TT because it increases the CdA by reducing motion variance in the lower body but it makes it extremely hard to follow explosive attacks. He also looks too skinny.

> “Eddy kon niet plassen tijdens de controle. Ik heb rap de helft van mij bij hem gegoten”: met Roger De Vlaeminck op bezoek bij jarige Eddy Merckx (80)

paywalled unfortunately

“ You cannot explain how good Eddy was if you never drove it ”: with Roger De Vlaeminck visiting Eddy Merckx ( 80 )

How do you celebrate the eightieth birthday of the greatest cyclist? With a visit of – we will say this time – the second largest. So we called, birthday present under his arm, with Roger De Vlaeminck ( 77 ) at Eddy Merckx. For a conversation about getting old, 30 Monuments on one step, cycling at 20 an hour, Pogacar and Pedersen, but especially about Merckx itself. “ Eddy? You can't explain that if you've never driven it, dude. "

Half an hour before he will ring the bell at Eddy Merckx's square farm, Roger De Vlaeminck marvels next to us about the busy traffic on the E40 on a weekday. “ Where does all that go, vent ”, he says three times. “ The gazet said that 30,000 cars are added every year. Can't they all drive to Eddy? ” Would it have been our idea to pay Eddy Merckx a surprise visit, may we put that away. At the same time, De Vlaeminck has already tapped Eddy Merckx's number on his phone. When recorded on the other side, he shouts: “ Ha, Eddy, say, I hear you're getting eighty. We're on our way, huh. I hope you are in shape. ” And when he hooks up again seconds later: “ I don't know why I'm asking Eddy to be in shape. Eddy is always in shape. He shouldn't tell me anything else. ”

In Sint-Brixius-Rode, the host Roger De Vlaeminck approaches the courtyard of his restored farm. Tuesday, on June 17, Eddy Merckx turns eighty. A rider with an honors list longer than a Monday morning file. While Roger De Vlaeminck is wondering out loud when he has been here – “ Have we not gathered here before the World Cup in Yvoir in ‘ 75?” — and Eddy tries to make it clear to him that this is difficult: “ I only came here in ’ 80, Roger ”, there are thirty monuments on one step on the stairs to the living area. Thirty victories in the biggest one-day races: Milan-Sanremo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Lombardy. Nineteen victories for the birthday boy. Eleven pieces for his visitor. Even Tadej Pogacar, number three in the eternal rankings,it should set — provisionally — by nine. That alone is worth a photo. And a cake. Claudine serves them in multiples for Eddy's birthday. We recognize strawberries, pistachio and chocolate. On the way earlier, De Vlaeminck has entrusted us that he is ‘ on regime ’. “ This afternoon I only ate a head of lettuce and some nuts. ” But he clearly does not turn down this strawberry cake. And to drink it may be “ a whiskey ”: “ Then I can chat better. Santé, hey, Eddy! ”And to drink it may be “ a whiskey ”: “ Then I can chat better. Santé, hey, Eddy! ”And to drink it may be “ a whiskey ”: “ Then I can chat better. Santé, hey, Eddy! ”

Getting eighty, what does that do to someone?
Merckx: “ Not so much. Eighty is just a number. But it has already been busy. Yesterday the Gazzetta dello Sport, tomorrow a Spaniard, the Rai who will call me later, it has been weeks of that. They haven't forgotten me yet. And my health is not yet famous. I still have problems in my hip. I fell on December 9. Normally they say you are cycling back three weeks after surgery. It has been six months with me now. Only recently have I been on my bike again. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ Eighty years. Where has all this time gone? I am 78 ( on August 24, ed. ). In about three years I will have my squat. This week. I take off my grass, I drive a well and I get a shock in my back. Always give everything as a driver, walked a lot after my career, that is now a mistake for me. My knees are bothering me. If it doesn't rain ’ in the morning I will still cycle. But only on the mountain bike. Forty kilometers, maximum, at twenty per hour. And you? ”

Merckx: “ I don't know. My computer is broken and I am too lazy to get another one. But it will not be faster. I was 78 pertang still good. The difference with two years ago is large. Then I could easily do my kilometers by bike. But in March last year I had an operation on my gut, then that hip, I got a serious knock. Also because the prosthesis is not at first caught had. When I went to the toilet ’ at night, I had to hold on to the pain, as if I was going to sink through my legs. But the doctors didn't want to believe me. I really waived three months and twelve days. On March 22 they operated on me again. Only when I woke up on the 23rd could I support something on my legs again. And furthermore, my pelvis and my back, that has been much longer, hey. Since Blois ( in September 1969 Eddy Merckx fell heavily on the slopes, ed. ). I have said it many times before: after Blois they have never seen Eddy Merckx climb again as before. ”

The Vlaeminck: “ Hear him. I have often seen him drive. Every time it was ‘ Salut ’ and he was gone. Eddy never argues about his own, but because he turns eighty, I will say it for the readers of the Nieuwsblad. It may be a hundred, a thousand years of course, someone like Eddy, you will never have that again. I'm proud to have been able to ride Eddy all these years. ”
However, your first meeting was reportedly not so cordial.

The Vlaeminck: “ In the Tour of Belgium, 1968. Near Brussels. Eddy had been a pro for a long time, he will have won ten classics or it will not make much difference. I only turned pro in ’ 69. Soixante-neuf. In ’ 68 I was in the lead in the Tour of Belgium with the amateurs. He had come to the finish with his entire team. If I didn't want to join him in the team, he asked. Remember, Eddy, what I said: ‘ Eddy, I'm never going to drive for you. I'm going to drive against you. ’ ( laughter ) Actually dare of myself, against Mr. Merckx. But I meant that. ”

Merckx: “ And he was right. Lucien Acou, my father-in-law ( and technical director at the cycling union, ed. ), had pointed me to him. Roger stood out with the enthusiasts. The crosseur, we said. On its Brussels. But he came over and the crosseur immediately won the Omloop Het Volk. ”

Roger, for our young readers, can you just say how good Eddy Merckx was?
The Vlaeminck: “ You can't explain that if you've never driven it, dude. I once drove the Omloop Het Volk with him ( in 1973, ed. ). We were two ahead. Eddy was quick, but so was I. But Eddy drove so fast that day ... ”

Merckx: “ At the latter it was with him ( makes sound from escaping air )… pfffff. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ Normally I was fast, now only very tired. Eddy just turned on to sprint and I had to sit down already. That was Eddy. He could destroy you. The cleanest thing I remember is the Tour of Flanders. Was that ’ 75? Eddy attacks more than a hundred kilometers from the line and only Frans Verbeeck could follow. He also regretted that. We were behind that with eight very good drivers. Me, Godefroot, Demeyer, Dierickx, me. All good. And we didn't get it. Niét, hey. Oh, dude, they all talk about Pogacar today. But when I look at the course now, there is not one like Eddy, not even half, not even Pogacar. I may exaggerate a little, but not much. ( looks at the table, ed. ) Is there another cake from the Bruxelles for me? ”

His ‘ regimen ’ is far away. The chocolate cake also disappears to the plate of De Vlaeminck. Meanwhile, a fragment of the past Giro plays on TV. Van Aert drives through the image. “ I don't know with Van Aert ”, says Merckx. “ He was not good in the classics, I thought. That fall in the Tour of Spain last year gave him a knock. He is more careful, more shocked. I hope the Tour of Italy did him good. Maybe we will see the best Van Aert in the Tour de France. ”

Just as you stood out more than fifty years ago, now Pogacar dominates. Could some more competition be allowed?
Merckx: “ I think so. Who did we see in the spring? Van der Poel. And Evenepoel when he is healthy. In my time you had Godefroot, Roger, Freddy Maertens, Demeyer ... And in the big rounds Gimondi, Motta, Ocana, Fuente. Now it is all less in the rounds. Outside of Vingegaard. And even he. Vingegaard is so little racing. And in Paris-Nice at the beginning of the year he did not leave me a good impression. ”

The Vlaeminck: “ That's for sure that Vingegaard is a good thinner, but he doesn't drive. What do they pay it for a whole year? And I will not clap Pogacar, but what opposition does he have? Like they let him drive 90 kilometers in the Strade Bianche. And the only one who has tried anything is Pidcockske. Come on, young. They wouldn't have unloaded me there so quickly. On the sand, in the stones. I would have liked to drive that course. Or Pedersen. They make it a very good one now because he wins a few rides in the Tour of Italy. But he cannot win a time trial and he cannot win a mountain ride. Then you are not a super driver for me. What has Pedersen already won? ”

Merckx: ” Be careful. Gent-Wevelgem, three times. And if he doesn't drive flat at a bad time this year, I want to see it in Paris-Roubaix. And in the Giro he was still strong. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ Strong? I won 22 rides in the Tour of Italy and I finished fourth in the final classification. And I'm not going to talk about Eddy. How many times won the Giro? Five times? Pogacar is going to hurry. Eddy is braver than me. More careful. A different character than me. He can't help it either. Listen, I won't say Pedersen is a bad driver, but it's not a good one either. And he is certainly not great. That's my honest thought, and that's the truth. ”

Was a victory worth twice as much at the time as you could have knocked Merckx?

The Vlaeminck: “ Of course. What could be cleaner than if you can beat the best driver in the world? Doesn't that make you happy? And I can say that because I once knocked Eddy three times in one day. In the Tour of Switzerland in ‘ 75. ’ in the morning in the sprint, ’ in the afternoon in the time trial, and then again in the final classification. In the time trial, my father was waiting one kilometer from the line. Thumb down was: you're on the back of Eddy. Thumb up: you are ahead. His thumb went down, I was a second behind, but I made another sprint and I had three seconds ahead of the line. ”

Merckx( wink ): “ That was after Blois, hey. Otherwise it would not have been true. But it is true: the cleaner victories are the ones that you can beat your competitor. I even knocked Roger once on a cinde track ( sintelbaan, ed. ), in Strasbourg in the Tour. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ I was angry there. I was unbeatable on an axis slope. I don't know what I did wrong, but at once I couldn't get past it. But yes, Eddy knocked me more. I don't mind that. Don't say something Eddy didn't win? ”

Present time. There is wine from France and Italy – a toast for every overall victory in Tour and Giro — and a cartoon appears from under the wrapping paper. Merckx's career is contained in one drawing. “ Still seeing that they have not forgotten anything ”, Merckx laughs. Meanwhile, son Axel Merckx jumps in. He leaves for Luxembourg for a few days. Roger De Vlaeminck notes that he is better careful “ with those 200,000 cars out there. ”
Roger, you even named your son after Eddy. Eddy De Vlaeminck.
The Vlaeminck: “ Why not? He was the best in the world. And I thought: if he ever becomes a driver, he already has a name with which he can move forward. But he played soccer, and I had him done. He must do his best. ”

Merckx: “ I thought that was special. Call his son after me. That is, he still admired, respected me. ”
After your difficult start, could you get along better and better?
Merckx: “ During the career we did not give each other many gifts. Remember, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 1970? With Erik? We went to the Rocourt slope with about five or six ... ”
The Vlaeminck: “ The road to the slopes was only two meters wide. ( laughter ) In the bend I went right. Erik, my brother, remained left. He detained Eddy for two seconds and I was gone. And I afterwards: “ Is it true, Eddy? Can't you run well? ”
Merckx: “ Then I was disappointed, yes. And in Yvoir ( World Cup 1975, ed. ) also. I had sacrificed a whole course for him here. He had been hanging on my pants all day. So much so that Knetemann came to drive next to me: ‘ You are Merckx, what is it now? ’ But I fell early and thought I would do well. I complained about that. In retrospect, he claimed here that I had done it. I did not think that was correct. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ Because ge Kuiper ( later world champion, ed. ) let it run. ( to us ) I think he would rather I didn't win. ”
Merckx: “ But I was broken. And I don't lie. Otherwise I will not let you hang on my pants. It was your own fault. Lucien Van Impe did not ride a meter in the lead that day because you had only called him half before the race. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ While I never said he was half as a driver. I said he was half because he wasn't big. Apparently that was wrong. ”

On the other hand, confidence was so great that Roger was allowed to fill your jar at a doping test.
The Vlaeminck: “ In Switzerland. It came like this: it had been raining all day. In the sprint Eddy wins, I win second. So we go to the check. But Eddy had pissed during the race and couldn't pee. And I was still full of urine. When the doctor was not looking, I quickly poured half of me on him. He would have done that for me the other way around. Pissing in the rain has happened quickly. You don't always think about that. ”
Merckx: “ That's right. It was cold and I was frozen. And I was quite easy on the course. But I was confident in Roger, absolutely. ”

Roger, you even taught Eddy to ride a field?
The Vlaeminck: “ I still drove down the stairs at his home. Eddy never did that, the cross. But he once participated in Overijse. Then we started training together. ”
Merckx: “ He was going to double me in Overijse, he had said, the crosseur here. But not so fast yet, she. I finished fifth. I also sponsored Roger on the cross. After my career, with the company. Two winters. Out of sympathy. That was always clean publicity with Roger. ”
The pistachio cake must now also believe it. “ I knew ”, Eddy laughs. “ When Roger comes, I have to tours have in house. ” The conversation is now going in all directions. “ You are always busy on the course. But chat ne times van Anderlecht ”, Roger suggests. Eddy kindly declines the proposal: “ Shut up about it, young.” The name Monseré falls. The 1970 world champion who crashed in his rainbow jersey. Roger: “ It was even worse than me when it came to chatting. You could have made articles with that. ” Rik Van Looy too. In the early years the great rival of Merckx, and died just before his 91st birthday last year. “ I had eaten with him shortly before ”, says Merckx. “ General cancer apparently. It was done in a few months. ”

Does it also make you think about the finiteness of things?
The Vlaeminck: “ Often. Last month I went to the clinic. They had seen a white patch on my vocal cords. In August I have to get rid of it. It wouldn't matter, they say. I'll believe that, right? And forgotten. This morning I get up and forgot my dog's name. And I have it pertang for six weeks. How many pills did you take, Eddy? I five a day. And every box says: lifelong. ”
Merckx: “ ’ In the morning alone four for my heart. And blood thinners. And now, with that operation, I also have to take antibiotics. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ I often think about that. I was with Godefroot recently. Been such a driver, and now: bed in the living room, difficult talking. Then I think: will that await me too? I can't take that well. ”
Merckx: “ Mja. But if you always think about that, you are no longer alive. You should hope you are not unlucky. ”
And now a party, Tuesday on your birthday?
Merckx: “ Still not a big party. It has been busy enough. Maybe something with the children and the grandchildren, that should not be more for me. ”
The Vlaeminck: “ I'll be back then. ( against us ) Guy, I'm proud to have been able to drive with Eddy. Is that already on your paper? ”

damn, that's a long interview. I'll add another one I read today in a Swiss newspaper with former sprinter and track rider Urs Freuler with some nice Giro stories.

The Glarner with the striking Schnauz (moustache) won over 100 races. He was worshiped and blackmailed – and still gets into the saddle after several heart operations even when he is 66 years old.

His trademark was the Schnauz, his strength the speed: Urs Freuler was a professional cyclist from 1980 to 1997, celebrated well over 100 victories. He was world champion on the track ten times, he also won stages on the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de Suisse. In 1982 and 1983 the Glarner was voted Swiss Athlete of the Year.

The now 66-year-old is married and has an adult son. He runs a cycling shop in Näfels GL, and also offers 3-G bike holidays in Mallorca: enjoyment, cozy, together.

Urs Freuler, after three or four decades apart, you can finally admit it: While the field on the Tour de Suisse tortured the Gotthard, they were chauffeured in the official tour car.

Stop these robber stories! A former opponent spread this myth, others retold it. I assure you that I never had any special treatment, except maybe that I once held onto the car for a few hundred meters. At the Giro d’Italia, on the other hand, I saw how suspended (laché) riders drove from the Stelvio Pass in the support vehicle down to the finish line because it was so cold. ( thinks ) I already have a nice tour de suisse anecdote ready.

We hear.

In 1991 I was hung up to the Chasseral with about 15 other drivers, later we drove along a lake through the Vallée de Joux. When we met a red light construction site at a village entrance, I realized that we had gone wrong. We had shortened without knowledge and overtook the whole field, suddenly a marshmallow came towards us and fiddled wildly. Tour director Sepp Vögeli then ordered us by radio that we should hide behind a butcher's shop. When everyone drove past us, we got back into the saddle. ( laughs ). Nobody noticed the whole thing at first.

Speaking of Vögeli: Before you became a professional, he said you would not even come across a level crossing.

I loathed the mountains, at 85 kilos I was much too heavy. There are hardly any types of drivers like me today. Much more emphasis is placed on endurance. I liked to treat myself to a beer in the evening, and was not the hardest-working – more of a grüetsmoore. Sometimes I called a colleague in front of a unit and asked him: « Do you already see a cloud in the sky with you? Do we want to stay at home better? » ( laughs ) It used to be a lot different.

And better?

Oh no, the level anyway. We were professionals, but we behaved like amateurs. Only what we ate – was catastrophic, actually complete nonsense. The morning before Paris – Roubaix there was rice and steak, plus café complet. After entering the finish we drank four glasses of cola, then there was a bun and maybe dry cheese, which had to last until night. We also wore jerseys made of wool, which was terribly itchy. And that wasn't even the worst.

But?

At the Giro we drove up the Gaviapass, it was snowing and so cold that the translation was no longer working, it was frozen. Once at the top, I drank hot tea with cognac, the rest I poured over the circuit to thaw it. I didn't even have proper rain protection with me. These were legendary times.

The schnauz was particularly legendary for you. How did this trademark come about?

I had it at the age of 17, 18. I shaved it off once, but it looked so terrible that I couldn't dare to leave the house. The snout contributed to my recognition value. In the past there were even fewer cameras and fewer transmissions, thanks to the Schnauz everyone knew immediately: this is the Freuler.

The snout as an advertising tool?

In terms of marketing, my snout certainly helped me. At the Spengler fashion house there was even a « Urs Freuler line », in the Canary Islands I posed for it in windbreakers. I also advertised the Glarner Chämi salami and Mercedes. I was allowed to pick up a new car every year, mostly I took one in the same color because otherwise some in the neighborhood would have called and said: « Now the freelancer has a new Benz again. »

Did you have a lot of envious people?

If you have envious people, you have bread. You have achieved nothing without envious people. I still have three cars today, I stand by that. My career was worth it, I don't have to be ashamed of it.

You became world champion on the track ten times, won over 100 races – were you a good seller of yourself?

The six-day races in Zurich were worth it, in the old Hallenstadion the hired spectators stretched out a 50 or 100 Nötli at a late hour. ( laughs ) Seriously: I didn't have a manager, maybe more would have been possible. But already in 1983 I was able to build a house for my parents and brothers, but I still lived in the studio because I was hardly at home anyway. Four years later there was a block that I have been renting since then. I had to buy my first racing bike myself, I was 15 and the confirmation money and the wages as auxiliary workers went for it.

Years later you were famous and worshiped. To warm up the robber stories again: It is said that you were one of the most sought-after bachelors in Italy.

I probably had what is called groupies today. ( laughs ) But I've been happily married since 1987. Do you know how I met my wife?

Tell me!

I was a huge fan of Maria Walliser. Because we had the same sponsor, I knew that she was contesting a European Cup race in Davos. But there I saw that she had a friend, a little frustrated I was looking for space. On the way back I stopped at a hotel in Klosters, where a friend of my mother worked. At the regulars' table I was served by a beautiful young woman, a date was arranged over seven corners. It was love at first sight.

But just, back to Italy …

… a gentleman enjoys and is silent. ( laughs ) I drove for the Italian Atala team for years, and because I spoke a little Italian, I eventually became a favorite with the public. When I later drove for a Dutch team, an ancient man spoke to me in Sicily on a park bench who hardly had any teeth. He said: « Hey, Freuler, when will you come back to us? » I still get chicken skin today when I think about it.

After your resignation, you were a team manager with the Swiss Phonak team for three seasons. How did you experience this time?

Owner Andy Rihs was a great guy, a patron of the old school. We often rubbed ourselves, he was a scorpion like me, stubborn and stubborn. Phonak was a second division team, we really wanted to get up, I put the team together. I tried to keep the expenses low, so I bought a very old team bus, had it restored, it all cost CHF 170,000. Later, John Lelangue, an employee of the Tour de France, came up to Andy and said Phonak would receive a wild card for the tour. But he made it clear: « I want Freuler's job for that. »

How did it go on?

Of course, so far – the pressure became too great. So I had to go. By the way: Shortly afterwards Phonak bought a new team bus. Cost: CHF 450,000.

And you became unemployed?

Yes, for a whole year. My wife said I should go stamping, but I just replied: « No, the freuler doesn't. » I was too proud to go stamping. I had a hard time without a job, but then I received an exciting offer as a co-organizer of the Zurich six-day race.

Phonak celebrated some successes, but was also involved in doping scandals. Did you feel complicit?

No! We were lied to by the team doctors, by the sports managers, also by the drivers. We also suspended a Swiss man whose suitcase we had found banned substances in. Oscar Camenzind's transfer was brutal, but he admitted everything. The case of doping by Tyler Hamilton broke our neck. ( thinks ) My father-in-law was a cook at Phonak; when I was no longer on the team, he noticed some strange, forbidden things. I was sorry for Andy, he didn't deserve all of this.

During your Phonak period, you were even blackmailed by a former racing colleague who threatened to publish a list of dopers. Were you afraid?

I received a dubious SMS and didn't know who the sender was. I was particularly afraid of my son. It was a tough time, we turned on detectives. The blackmailer asked for money, and was arrested in a large police operation. But actually I don't want to warm up this story again.

You too have been tested positively during your career. Do you still affirm your innocence?

The reason for my elevated testosterone level could never be determined. Therefore, I resisted the ban in court, which was then reduced by several months.

So you have a clear conscience?

Yes, I don't need to blame myself.

They drove at a time that was considered quite contaminated …

… it was above all a time when everything went unprofessionally. At the six-day races, the inspectors crouched next to us at the bar, next to them their case with the samples. Everyone could have grabbed and manipulated – in both directions. It also happened that someone could not pee at the doping test, then strangely the light went out in the toilet and suddenly the urine was there. It was surely shitty. I have a clear conscience. But everyone says that, of course. I am particularly bothered by the fact that today everything is re-analyzed afterwards with some modern measuring methods – even if the original sample was negative. I find that a mess. I am glad that I am no longer part of the cycling system.

You are still cycling and offering cycling holidays. What about your shape?

I drive around 6000 kilometers a year. But with the electric racing bike – it can't be otherwise.

Why?

Because of the heart. I had an intervention for rhythm disturbances in the nineties when I was still a professional. Two further interventions, meanwhile great efforts are a major problem. I then get a pressure in the abdominal area – I couldn't jog 300 meters, then I would get dizzy. I also can't get up a happy pass without help. But when I'm worried, I have my health under control. And I'm not ashamed to drive with an electric drive.

De Vlaeminck really is a stereotypical "back in my days" kinda guy. Merckx obviously also has his pride, but he clearly is more controlled. I guess no need to add anything when the other guy is already elevating you in an attempt to elevate himself by association.

Thanks bert, I'll think of something. Here's the stream, not sure if you need a vpn: https://www.is.fi/urheilu/art-2000011275491.html
It's going to be a hard race, especially with the really technical small lap design. Just hope there won't be any chutes there.

Strava has some privacy settings or so you need to enable so they can show your heart rate, I can't find it on the fly but I remember I also had to change something

Holy shit, a MTB dude rammed into an old lady on an e-bike at around 30km/h and send her flying. Luckily I was able to swerve around them. She just rode straight onto the bike path without looking. Had her head hit the concrete pretty hard and obviously didn't wear a helmet but got angry at me when I wanted to call her an amublance. MTB dude escorted her to her nearby caravan.

I know why I usually avoid these touristy bike paths (especially in summer) like the plague.

 >>/17343/
it's more important to show a prerecorded comedy show on a Saturday afternoon on France 3 than the full stage. during the tour they show the early part of the race on France 5, but today they show a documentary about cats "Une vie de chaton", so cute.

 >>/17340/
relatable ebiker retardation
Not uncommon among cyclists in general but super common among ebikers especially. I have a couple of bike paths nearby that lead onto the road once you enter the next village and I've seen plenty of close calls already because the old fucks just merge on the road without looking, without checking if there's anything driving on the road. And mind you they drive their cars like that as well, we can but pray we never meet them

Honestly if I was in the break I wouldn't pull while Kuss is in here. Without him they would have goten at least 5 free minutes and now they must work like hell for 1:30

I would call out Schizobrit for saying yesterday he would no longer watch stages with Pogi in them, but I am banned

Can someone call him out and give me credit for some virtual (you)s

 >>/17453/
Had the exact same team as you tree, but I will respek the psyop of him not being 100, also KIELICH history of being decent but not the best from Alpecin in this race.

 >>/17502/
You never know. They're both strong. Jonas rode a great ITT. We'll see how things look in the second and third week of a hot Tour.

Plus Pogi still recovering from 2024 Strade

I will try to retain myself from sperging out as hard as possiblr but I really can't stand that dyke looking, forced likeable doper.

It would be very "pogacar looking cocky moments before brutally cracking" moment if the seconds he dropped by soft-pedalling the final 300 m is what ends up deciding Dauphine in Jonas' favour. Not that it's looking that way, obviously.

Well I did a Zwift tiny race. 12 minutes at 187 bpm with no hydration or food, dropped, HR stuck at 160bpm in z2, now doing recovery ride desperately trying to bring HR down

DEL GROSSO wasn't 100 but still leaving him out was dumb. This Tismbert guy always shuffling in some uncertainty with snippets of info, in the right moment.

I really think QS is fucking themselves more and more every year they don't offload Remco. They could be rebuilding their classics/sprint teams but instead they're blowing their money on Remco and his useless hjaelpers for overambitious goals.

Merlier and Magnier are great, but they need more help than they currently have.

Sorry but we're in Belgium, the results have to be relayed via horseback, please be patient.
Milan San Creamers and Pinot Forever seem like a lock for top two, MVDF, Lennergy Pharma and Slome look solid for turd or forf.

Just remembered I have had a chat today with this manlet from the gym who is clearly compensating via an imopressive but high maintenance physique, tan, rather elaborate hair gel and beard routine, overly talkative demeanor with deferring to anyone who he perceives as a threat.
He always seemed to me like that typical slimy womanizer douche who will lie without the slightest blink, embellish whatever he does and pout via plausible deniability every time you call him out.

Turns out he is a typical slimy womanizer douche who will lie without the slightest blink and all the rest.

Speegosh would never cower and turn his eyes away once you look at him.
This fucking asshole also pretends he is some hot shot investor despite loudly broadcasting some of the most basic bitch advice which would make /biz/ refrain from bullying him and just tell him to go away.

He tried picking up a 19 year old with blasting her with an info dump of his "knowledge", 10 words per second.
Great idea and execution from a self-professed womanizer who can't have kids or even a dog because he fucks too much.

the Michaelskreuz climb is really steep with large double digit gradient parts. some guy called Tibo Pino still holds the KOM of the rampa to this day. they take a boring and long detour as descent to the finish line, so it's going to be a sprint of the groupetto that gets over it together.

> Whereupon Lipowitz was asked whether he would not be better off next to or above Primoz Roglic in the hierarchy of the Tour de France team of Red Bull-BORA-hangrohe. But Lipowitz does not want to hear of that. “The plan is to help him, he is still the great leader and he has shown before that he can digest three weeks well. But I am in good shape and will be able to play my part.”

All this shoe talk made me realise I have 60k+ on my shoes which I bought used at the time. Probably an acceptable time to get new ones.

This was a real question.
I know, "maybe you should retire if you're asking a question like this", but to whomst is RICCITELLO losing to?
ALMEIDA? Ok. Next?
Onley? Doubt.
O'Connor? Maybe.
Gall? Doubt.
De Plus? Maybe.
Van Wilder? Maybe.
Sasha? Yeah, nah.
Bilbao? Nah.
He is literally eligible for a top tree finish.
That gopher GRÉGOIRE on the other hand has a few finishes theoretically made for him but there is a whole bunch of puncheurs and baroudeurs who may all outwill our valiant squeaker.

In other quite expected news, I have booze-induced high pressure, when I woke up hungover yesterday I have clocked a 71 heartrate, today, another day after and after decent sleep of 4hrs straight and some few more of a good nap I have had 55 bpm.
It is going the right way, I will not die.

> Why isn't it coming out to Evenepoel at the moment? "Gosh... I've been struggling with my pollen allergy for a whole week. Maybe I'm also a bit short because of my poor winter. At this level, that's important. Here you come up against the best riders in the world in this work, with Tadej and Jonas. I don't want to blame it on anything, but there may be multiple causes. However, there is still enough time to analyze and prepare everything."

Nice! How do you deal with water in such long rides. I found water fountains scarcer in Austria compared to south of france.
> I owe you a rotisserie chicken
Noted!

 >>/17914/
Not sure about Austria but at least in Germany you can get water at every cemetery. People will tell you not to drink it but I've been doing this for decades and never had a problem.

I'm safe at my sisters place, it started to rain very heavy once the riders get further west. I'm still feeling really good since drinking that Lidl bidon.

Should the ASO have Martinez and Pogacar redo the stage in case it was a big fluke?
No disrespect to Martinez, I'm a firm believer that him beating Pogacar is a huge fluke and robs Pogacar of truly accomplishing what he is capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire season watching Pogacar scoring amazing watts, it's just not fair.

ben o'goober really is gonna win something again because he magically gets too much time in the break
this guy has some weird voodoo around him

It takes a while before the results are fully in and there is a point in scraping.
Unless they're retards who check if all the results placeholders are populated, every second.

mhm kevin should be able to hold that no, a lot of the coming stages are his punch territory too and if he doesn't climb like a brick on the TT...

wow ben tulip really threw away his good GC spot for Jonas to gain nothing
guess the dane can't tolerate any more pretenders after the Kuss disaster

Vauquelin, Castrillo and O'Connor are the ones that might impact the GC fight, the rest will bleed a lot of time on the mountain top finishes and TT.
