> Coach Koen Pelgrim also commented this morning before the start. "Today is a new day. Remco has to mentally process the blow, but he also suffered a similar blow two years ago in the Vuelta. And then he won a stage the next day. He's a fighter and will do the same today."

> "We don't expect him to beat Pogacar right away. I mainly hope he can find his legs from a few days ago. Remco is still third in the general classification, and if he doesn't lose time to his rivals today (Lipowitz, Onley, Roglic, ed.), it will have been a good day."

> While the team remains competitive, they are also investigating the causes of the poorer performances in the past two stages. "For some reason, he didn't recover well from the Dauphiné. He had some allergies there, and we had to adjust his training a bit afterward," Pelgrim explained. "Extra rest was also scheduled, which made preparation for this Tour more difficult. As a result, he's not currently achieving the values he normally should in the mountains."

why is cycling riddled with these really fucking dumb coaches?

 >>/28275/
> but the one day classics have to somehow feed into the narrative of the Grand Tours
What a fucking dumb bitch. We have to make RVV all about how it will impact MvdP's chances at the Tour de France? Most retarded opinion I have heard about the OneCycling/UCI calendar yet.

 >>/28324/
Spent like 15 eurobux on all tree bottles, that's one glass of the cheaper positions from bertwine's cellar. Meh pinot grigio, okish Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, some shitty Primitivo Puglia but luckily I have been already drunk.

> forces team to bring all their mid climbers to help him instead of a leadout for merlier
> doesn't even make it over the tourmalet before they give up on him
kwab

When you think about it it's aboslutely insane how many people are on the road every stage of the tour. Let's pray Plugged doesn't get his hand on this and start charging fee for parking 2 days in advance

German TV interviewed Ralph Denk after stage 12 and outright said
> with lipowitz this good you don't need remco anymore do you
to which he of course answered (coped) something along the lines of
> well remco couldn't train much through winter and spring so his form is not optimal
and then he said
> remco is still under contract with soudal next year and we also have to see how lipowitz finishes the tour
I think its safe to say they are at least going to renegotiate the salary and maybe won't even buy out the contract. I wouldn't sign him at all if I were them but bora insists on bad choices

 >>/28398/
> I wouldn't sign him at all
Depends on his salary and his demands. He can still win a lot but I wouldn't sign a contract that promises him captain roles in grand tours.

 >>/28398/
> well remco couldn't train much through winter and spring so his form is not optimal
Dude had a crash in DECEMBER and was on the trainer in JANUARY, it's insane howe everybody use this excuse all the time

I had a chute last May, which is why my form is not optimal for this race coming up in September. Imagine if I had been uninterrupted

 >>/28402/
thing is you just know it will be the same as roglic where he has to be the main guy in every stage race and grand tour (which is fair) but his form will always be a gamble. If his form is off and he starts to suck a few days into a stage race or mid grand tour you will have wasted hjaelper spots on gc just to babysit him for no gain. 6 million € a year for that

VERY suspicious. The ammattipyöräily guy only posted VAM and no w/kg for the itt as far as I can see. He did post something for hautacam though and multiple posts about how pog was slower than riis in the list

just got back from my ride
remco is such a mental kwab, who the fuck just gives up without being sick or injured
nigga just ride with the sprinters and maybe try for a stage in week 3

So now that bingogoal is clearly worse than pogačar should he start going for other stage races so that he can at least win something before he becomes fully washed?

tomorrow we get to see the castle of Carcassonne once again and we will squeak that the tan lines on the castle are still visible to this day

> The only one I can think of, given Jonas's reaction, is that Pogacar was a little less confident today. By keeping his team on a tight leash, he gave the impression that he wanted a new stage and was feeling fine. Jonas eventually agreed to test that when Pogacar didn't do anything. That said, Pogacar a little less is still good. That could be a reason. But hey, who knows.

90 minutes easy ride. The more I rode, the better I felt.
But the d*sc rubbing is back, it lasted two months of my best work, but two weeks of riding in torrential rain undid all my good work. The issue is the same as always, the pistons just don't retract as much as they should.

also shoutout to finnbert for the OSWE camelback recommendation - worked like a treat in the 30C+ heat today, without that I would've shriveled up like a raisin

> His coach, Koen Pelgrim, had already indicated that Evenepoel hadn't digested the Dauphiné well. "I basically couldn't do any training in the lead-up to the Tour. I couldn't handle any intensity."

> "Is it fatigue? Is my body not good enough this year? It could be anything. Off the bike, I don't feel bad, but on the bike, it's not working. I can't push as hard as I normally can."

This dude acting all arrogant even up till the restday and now he wasn't able to train at all before the tour. Who still believes this shit, he and his team have been huffing their own farts a little too much

This Tour is gonna be shittiest of the Vingegaard/Pogacar era by far. The top 10 is full of boring shitters and uninspiring 3rd tier GC riders, Visma are too cowardly and weak to do anything, no fun secondary characters like Carapaz to animate the race, 3rd spot is basically a lock for Lipowitz, Pogacar is eventually gonna win polka dots... The only interesting thing left to watch will be the battle for green if Grug seriously goes for it.

 >>/28663/
We are reaching levels of chute never thought to be possible.

I have decided to go to the actual birthday party, I am stuck with people who I vaguely remember, like 3 of those, and 15 whomst I do not know.
I am also in a club for the first time since at least 5 years.
This is fine, I am not acoustic

> Rozman – a Slovenian masseur who has worked for the British team for years – was exposed last weekend by Irish journalist Paul Kimmage in the Irish newspaper Sunday Independent. The story originated in an ARD documentary in June, based on court documents from the case against Doctor Mark Schmidt. He was convicted in 2020 for his involvement in the blood doping case better known as Operation Aderlass.

> Before and during the 2012 Tour de France, Rozman regularly contacted Doctor Schmidt. Messages between the two are part of the evidence in the trial. Rozman allegedly asked Schmidt for "stuff that Milram was using." They also met for a beer at the team hotel. Rozman also provided phone records of a suspected supplier of banned substances.
> Rozman – currently the team's main caregiver, as stated on the INEOS Grenadiers website – has reportedly not been seen with the team since the start of this Tour.

What a week of racing we've had since the last edition of /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !! Today we finish off the Pyrenean campaign with a most unusual (and unexpected!) wine.

Today's stage began in Pau, high in the foothills of South West France bordering the high Pyrenees. The vineyards just southwest of Pau (known as Jurançon) are known for sweet and dry white wines made from Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng grapes. The landscape here is hilly, but lush with high rainfall. Today's wine is a Petit Manseng, which are left on the vine until late November or even later, shriveling in the sun and dried by the winds sweeping down from the Pyrenees to the south. This creates sweet wines of acidity and freshness.

Didier Dagueneau Les Jardins de Babylone Moelleux 2018 ($160)

I should make a comment about the producer here, Didier Dagueneau. He was an absolute legend in the Loire Valley. Although from a family with deep history of winemaking, he spent his youth as a motorcycle and sled dog racer, returning to his ancestral farms in Pouilly-Fume in 1982. He was a complete bastard, criticizing his neighbors for their shit wines. His exacting, autistic methods in the vineyards elevated Sauvignon Blanc to new heights, and he basically single-handedly created the reputation of Pouilly-Fume and the modern Loire Valley for Sauvignon Blanc. He died in an ultralight plane crash in 2008. Today's wine was made by his son, Benjamin Louis.

Pours a soft gold with high viscosity. The nose has wonderful tension of sweet tropical fruit (pineapple, apricot, peach nectar) and an intriguing mentholated/minty note. The palate has an attack of honey, ripe pear, and apricot and then a little thrill of acidity to cut through the mouth-coating body.

This is very fine. To be honest, I had no idea this was a sweet wine. The nose is so aromatic, but I wish the body and palate had a bit more verve to it. I would compare this to a solid Sauternes. Price is inflated by the Dagueneau name. I'll be drinking this over the next couple of weeks.

After 14 stages I'm convinced that any GC hopeful wouldn't need more than two domestiques, if those two were Narvaez and Crampy. It's downright nuts what they're doing. Not quite 2022 or even 2023 Wout level, but close.

Autismbert is probably still stuck in a dark tunnel, alone, waiting for a hjaelper trein to get him out his trouble
And then, tomorrow, a big meeting with his boss where he will get screamed at for letting the public down

 >>/28712/
Yea Narvaez being useful in the high mountains is the biggest wtf.
I tought he'd do well in the first week with all the puncheur stages but what he's doing now is nuts.

 >>/28714/
Yeah, when Almeida abandoned (and also because of Sivaque's sickness) I thought Pogacar would be alone in the mountains or just with Yates, but nah, Narvaez somehow is a top 15 climber in the race. Especially surprising after his classics campaign not being great even as a domestique.

I have successfully left without doing an English departure (slipping out, not notifying anyone). Managed to still catch a wine to wash down that vodka.
No wonder I have always needed to get drunk to persevere in these "clubs".
They were blasting Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith, kinda comfy kinda cringe. I think this was offishel first time for me as a boomer being in a boomer filled club on a boomer party with low effort boomer type jokes flying and boomers rotfling about them.

Weather terrible, so I did the Hautacam on Zwift. Only about 46 minutes behind the BALDOPED DONKEY's time.

Tried to keep it controlled with cadence around 60 rpm to help prepare for my climb of Whiteface next month. I also ordered a 11-36 cassette because I am a fatass and will need it

I made me summerly ratatouille niçoise
Norbert would probably scream with rage if he saw some of my preparation methods but it helps me use up the goods from me garden and tastes a treat

> 2nd year in a row that I'm sick during my biking vacations
Such is life I guess. Thnakfully I'm can do nice ride all year around

 >>/28732/
Very good bert! I've really liked it as well.
In other words my ex-coach is saying that Remco dnf'd because he has been underfueled for a while, most likely because he thinks he needs to be lighter to be able to compete with the big dogs. Such a shame but very common in the pro circuit

so consider a tour 2026, but only fraudulent riders participate (pogi has good memories from his tour de california victory and wants to win the olympics, trine forcing jonas to repair the door bell, etc.). so the startlist would be Ayuso, Remco, Arensman, Gall and all the French riders. who would win in such a scenario?

 >>/28757/
Would still be UAE winning if they can manage their troops. Ayuso would have won the Giro if he didn't crash and Del Toro would have won it if he wasn't retarded.
Imagine an Almeida, Ayuso, Del Toro tridente vs Remcrack in the passes. He would have no chance.

If I were a german boomer, I would be seething shirtless about VLASOV, nowhere to be seen for two weeks, LIPOWITZ and ROGLIC always isolated.
And suddenly today he goes solo.

 >>/28857/
I've seen quite a bit of fuming directed at vlasov like when he is in the break and doesn't drop back to help the gc guys but rather keeps going until he blows up
lots of fuming directed at the bora lineup in general but its not clear what vlasovs mission is. Does he want to go for a stage win? He isn't helping and he isn't achieving anything

 >>/28861/
Half of these teams have beyond dog shit tactics and just constantly doing shit that makes no sense

As someone who has watched literally hours of NorCal crit videos, I am an expert on bike racing tactics

 >>/29021/
> "It was a pretty strange situation," continued the Slovenian world champion. "I didn't really know what to think. I stayed with Jorgenson so the three of them wouldn't slip away. Maybe I helped Jonas with that as well."
> After the race, Pogacar clearly questioned Visma-Lease a Bike's unusual tactics. His own team, UAE Team Emirates, has already been warned against adopting such an approach. "If I were Jonas, I wouldn't be the happiest at the table tonight. He's second in the general classification and can still win the Tour. He showed excellent form yesterday. I understand Visma wants to win stages too, but they can still win the Tour. I wouldn't be happy," Pogacar concluded.

Is that Jean-Luc's brother who was in that one episode and never heard from again, except for that movie where they needed a tragic backstory for Picard so suddenly he and his son died in a fire or something

Storer also SEETHING

But just then, Vingegaard's teammates attacked. "Suddenly, Wout (van Aert, ed.) accelerated, then Victor (Campenaerts, ed.) and Matteo (Jorgenson, ed.). I didn't really know what to think," Pogacar told Danish TV 2 Sport after the race. "I closed the gap on Jorgenson so all three of them wouldn't get away. That ultimately helped Jonas a bit. It was a strange situation; Tim (Wellens, ed.) and I were trying to calm things down so they could come back." Visma's tactics were incomprehensible to the world champion. "If I were in Jonas's position, I wouldn't be the happiest at the dinner table tonight. I still think he can win the Tour, he's second in the general classification, and he was in fantastic shape yesterday. I understand they want to win stages, but they can also win the whole Tour. I don't know what they did today, but I wouldn't be the happiest," said Pogacar.
Good boy Pog even helped Jonas against the evil Visma menace! I really hope there is another Trine interview soon

 >>/29082/
yes absolutely, and you have access to lots of fields for gravelling to the east, lots of rampas and nice country roads for ciclismo and the east end of the alps with rax/hochschwab, and the degeneracy of the big city with vienna around the corner

> Luckily it doesn’t bother me and neither does anyone else in the group. At least, I don’t get that feeling. But it’s quite funny that Tadej says it. It was also very clear that UAE Emirates XRG wanted Tim Wellens in the breakaway. They did exactly the same. And when I look back at that situation with Jonas’ crash, I think the solution would have been really simple.”
> With 25 riders, we tried to get into the breakaway," points out the Belgian leader of Visma | Lease a Bike . "If Tadej had simply dropped back into the group Jonas was in, that would have been truly sporting. Now he's complaining about something that isn't there. We simply wanted to race for the stage win. Everyone who was there at that moment was there to be in the breakaway. I think that's a perfectly normal thing."
Is he insane?

I am starting to think there's something wrong with my Faveros and my feeling of excessive RPE compared to watts is simply a sideproduct of my power meter reading low. This was an easy endurance ride, just over 200W, with a small side-tailwind. The speed seems quite high for the watts especially since I don't consider myself that aero, being big and high on the bike. Tomorrow I'll compare with my Quarq, see if there's some discrepancy there. The faveros used to be spot on with my other Quarq spider PMs, but the power has seemed off for a few sessions now.

> Jonas Vingegaard isn't ready to throw in the towel just yet, ahead of the third and final week of the Tour de France. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider, second in the general classification, is over four minutes behind the currently unassailable Tadej Pogacar after fifteen stages. "We have to attack; we're more than four minutes behind, and we have to do something about that," says a combative Vingegaard. "I'm willing to sacrifice my second place to go all-in for the overall victory."
It is ON

 >>/29120/
> I'm willing to sacrifice my second place to go all-in for the overall victory."
Very based attitude. Also delusional to think he can still win since it's against Pogacar but whatever.

 >>/29152/
i dont see what else he could do. he will not be allowed in breaks, perhaps a long attack on a multi-mountain stage but that still requires him to get separation from pogacar at some point. if pog's in his wheel its just stupid

 >>/29157/
So far it's been either Jonas alone chasing Pogacar or Jonas riding with Pogacar in his wheel. I think we've already seen the script for how these stages go.
If Pogacar wants to win he attacks and the favorites group is splintered and if he doesn't Jonas will attack and Pogacar will sit in his wheel with no issue.

 >>/29119/
They really do need to mandate "no motos in front of groups" as the default rule. Behind or side-view only.
If there's a moto with each group, I guess they can each go in front but that's a little iffy.
Or throw some tech at it with a red/green light thing hooked into the position system that scolds the driver if he's too close to the group based on their speed.

I looked through EF's roster and some of these can't possibly exist.
> Markel BELOKI
> Owain DOULL
> Alastair MACKELLAR
> Jack ROOTKIN-GRAY (wtf)
> Darren RAFFERTY
> Max WALKER
> Yuhi TODOME
> Jardi Christiaan VAN DER LEE
even pro velogoomblers can't possibly pay enough attention to know these names. You see EF and think oh yeah thats a big top team because of runners like Healy, Carapaz and C*sta among others but they sure are jobbing it up

people you should have paid attention to:
> DOULL, RAFFERTY
people you eventually will pay attention to:
> BELOKI
people who you will only hear about if they up the dopage:
> ROOTKIN-GRAY, WALKER, VAN DER LEE, MACKELLAR
people who do not exist:
> TODOME

i always mix up the field filler aussies and what team they ride on. they're spread out enough between teams that i find it hard to remember and they all have the same anglophone names.

Bower is from NZL, I remember in one of those Flemish spring races they kept mixing him up with Askey because they switched numbers. SURELY you remember this. Eddy is just some semi-sprinter Aussie shitter

against the recommendation of a fellow bert, I am considering to do more long distance rides (250km+) on me gravel bike, and got meself a TT handlebar extension but I am still not sure how I think about that, it looks pretty gay on a gravel bike tbqh but it will be so comfy

Back still with at least half an hour of safety, could have done the full SW loop but bailed after seeing I am converging with that cloud an I will NOT overrun it if I continue. I probably would.
Also, first real, deliberate drafting with effort behind a tractor with a big square trailer. Of course I almost crashed into it because the asshole slammed the brakes after braking nice and gently for 20m.
