Tomorrow I have special event shift. So they expect busy traffic and if necessary I will take an extra træen to alleviate the regular ones. I did this shift once before, it is basically just waiting all evening at the yard, all alone, and maybe you don't even have to do anything. Last time I did nothing. So I take my Steam Deck and get comfy. Best Christmas Eve ever

I look through the startlist and only recognize benji yes well of course it's belgian social media whores and shit how am I supposed to know anyone, anyways pro men has some recognizable names like tietema, Rick Zabel, Marten van riel (pro triathlete) but pro women is ??? who are these people

racing is already crap, the only races worth watching are MSR, PR and to a lesser extend RVV. Every gt he rides is crap and we're only in it to see how far he can go how many wins he can collect what records he can break

Happy christmas berts. No raping today for me, just enjoying life with the family, with some sauna, christmas church and a nice feast thrown into the mix. Hoping you have a nice time.

Merry Christmas to you too Bertele and all the other Bertosaurusae, I am hopping on a bike to go to me mom during the day but then when I get back it is all comfy squeaker with a full belly, farting merrily.

Merry Christmas
I will now try to ride one hour outside and the conditions are fucked, it's freezing with strong wind and for some reason it's been snowing a tiny bit. Joining me are two people who pig'd new bikes and gear, either we won't ride that hour or they won't make it back

> Nach dem Tod des norwegischen Biathleten Sivert Guttorm Bakken ist ein erstes Detail ans Licht gekommen. Wie der norwegische Biathlon-Verband in einer Mitteilung bekannt gab, habe der 27-Jährige eine Höhentrainingsmaske getragen, als er tot in seinem Hotelzimmer im italienischen Lavazè aufgefunden wurde.
He was altitude doping. Some riders have altitude bedrooms to simulate those conditions with reduced oxygen. Küng books a hotelroom at a nearby mountain for that effect.

> J'habite à Valdahon (Doubs), je préfère quand même me diriger vers la Suisse.
Wait, that dude doesn't even live in the south, but in the Jura region. It's super cold in winter in some valleys up there and yet he rides 200k outside every day.

I don't even play videogames but I could start....
also I got recommended train conductor vlog channels you could get into that business they get plenty of views

Me mom gave me some sniffles, we shall see what can be done without defaulting to oirish pisswhatr, but this time quite nice single malt.

 >>/57238/
I didn't want to spook him the last time so the trainposting continues, Bert is certainly a high forehead and hair haver.

 >>/57254/
Yeah strange innit. On Tuesday we had minus 8 degrees but then this warm BS again. How do you berts usually dress for this plus 4 weather? I had my warmest baselayer plus winter jacket and winter bib tights and good gloves and toe warmers, I think the baselayer was too much because this felt more like heat training.

 >>/57255/
My winter clothing is a mess, I basically have spring/autumn stuff and throw in a an extra base layer and leg warmers. I don't even have long bibs so spring pants have to do.
I have some 2019 winter jacket that's one/two sizes too big, that's warm and heavy, but I feel wind gets thru it too easily.
But I am not gonna invest heavily into winter gear when I ride once a month.

 >>/57251/
 >>/57255/
dressing for winter is shit. At 4° and no wind on a ride that's mid-upper z2 I wear a winter jersey with no baselayer, long bibs (not very thick), neoprene cap, thin buff, medium gloves, overshoes.

It all comes down to how many watts you push, the more watts and the harder you ride the thinner you have to dress while the very same ride at lower intensity and watts can require another layer just to not freeze. You also have to factor in climbing (if you have that) when you ride hilly because you need to be sufficiently warm when you're descending but remember you get real warm on every climb, that leads to me unzipping my jersey at 0° at times because that baselayer is just too warm right now but really necessary a few minutes later. You can't really win imo. On most rides I'm both too hot and too cold.

 >>/57255/
I paypigged for a Castelli Perfetto jacket (when they were on sale of course). together with a warm base layer this is pretty good stuff.
the other bert reminded me to keep my feet warm I wear midstrength wool socks that still fit into the the cycling shoe, again Castelli has those on offer. they keep changing the name for their socks, so I have no idea what they are called these days. I wear some cheap aliexpress shoecovers to reduce the impact of the wind, but those aren't hardshells, I still want them to be breathable. you could wear that toe cap that bertaczek uses as well.
now add a buff and head band and some gloves and I'm good to go.

Bertasad looking out of the window, but yes, I would have frozen to death. So back to raping tonight.
Think I will do a smol hiking tour tomorrow in the bohemian highlands. Too bad there's no snow but at least the mud froze out/

The doc just called and said a moderate mtb ride would work great to blow through my sore throat, runny nose and sinuses.
I guess a tea shall be made and a ride shall be had, perhaps to see if the pond is iced over already.

Thanks for the input berts. Unfortunately I only have the Spatzwear Wintr jacket here with me – probably just too warm for this weather. I will try it tomorrow with just a light sports tshirt underneath instead of a base layer. 3x8min suprathreshold intervals ahead so I will probably have to dress light so that I am almost too cold in the easy parts and then not too hot in the intervals.
I can wholly recommend the Spatzwear Pro Stealth overshoe system though, even with light summer socks and road shoes my feet were nice and cosy. And the Castelli Estremo gloves are very nice as well, likely even better for minus degrees.

Good note to self - potential winter bike camping in my winter jacket has to be a low Z2, otherwise I will overheat and sweat it out immediately.
Camp booties and regular socks are just a bit too cold, has to be a nice winter sock or preferably something windproof.
And I have forgotten about my thermos, hence a ride back to pick it up retake of the pond photo.

> Anyone looking forward to seeing W*ut van Aert in Gavere on Friday won't see him at the start. The Belgian star has decided to cancel a planned cyclocross race from his schedule, and that decision is anything but coincidental. After an intense block of races, Van Aert is looking ahead, focusing on balance, recovery, and what's to come in the coming days.
This guy is the biggest kwab of all time

 >>/57372/
Honestly some shitty gravel bike with mudgards and skii/mountairing gear on top of your cyclist gear is fine for 2h rides in freezing temps. Depending on how often it gets cold where you live it might be worth it

I did some suprathreshold work, was a real pain with too hot clothing but not much I can do here at the in-laws. 2x8min at just over 380W and then the third one was a complete failure, dropped at 4min when I just couldn't produce any good power. Seemed like the overheating was more of an issue with higher cadences so I just grinded away with like 85-90rpm.

 >>/57396/
I've actually thought about buying one to use here, they have room at the attic and a rape machine only costs a few hundred. But I just usually ride here while my wife drives the car, and then do a ride or two if I have the time. Good roads around here, lots of nice countryside gravel.
 >>/57399/
Yeah I think I would overheat even at -5 degrees with threshold work and this jacket, big watts = big heat

 >>/57404/
Well all my "base layers" for winter cycling are actually my hiking gear, merino. And from my experience they are VERY warm but even the smallest of breeze cuts right thru them. So you really need a good windstopper. My windstopper is really made for spring.

Ok, kinda announcing my own departure but I will go tink a bit with the help of oirish pisswhatr.
Not going to lie, Teeling is very solid for the pricepoint, especially if you can find a promo, like my basic single malt for 35 eurobucks.

Well, no bobers but I have seen two baby foxes. They ran away once I started coming closer so no video evidence.

 >>/57415/
No, one goes for at least two nights, this one will last at least tree, too nice to gobble and forget, like some Jameson.

 >>/57446/
I'm keeping RPE pretty low on purpose so as not to interfere with the riding, but I think I could do a 180kg single in the deadlift, maybe 130kg in the squat. As for upper body, I did 5x75kg bench a couple months back with a couple reps in reserve, so maybe 1x85-90kg. Pretty t-rex to be honest.

This is where the infamous #Valvegate started.
I went left instead of right, the route used to be much worse. pinchazod in 5 meters before I realized my mistake. Replaced the tire, noticed the short valve and had to walk 2 km to træen,then again further 10 km walk of shame to my car

Not a good hike.
Everything was frozen, the snow, the ground, the trees, the roots, the roads even. That was such a stupid idea. I spent majority of those 4 hours walking like I shat myself so I don't chute.
Only chuted once in the end.
Would never have happened in Watopia.

> In 1997, Warner released the film onto DVD as a double sided disc, with the "British" version on one side, and the "Hollywood" version on the reverse. Between the two versions of the film, the "British" version most prominently omits the final scene on the train.
Oh wow. BBC ended it with the scene in the amusement park and thus aired the British version

We did a six-hour train ride through Sweden last summer. She loved to watch the scenery for 10min, then the rest of the trip we had to constantly figure new things for her to do such as drawing, lots of books etc. Depends on the kid I suppose, but ours doesn't like to just sit quietly by herself, she always wants us to play with her.

Wout will get heemed on this course

 >>/57614/
I was there, don't think I posted much. Was kinda boring tbh, normally it's a pure mud and suffer fest but we haven't had rain in weeks and everything is frozen hard so it was just a fast course.

> Out with acromioclavicular dislocation (Crash in X²O Badkamers Trofee Azencross - Loenhout)
< Acromioclavicular dislocation is an injury where the collarbone (clavicle) separates from the shoulder blade at the acromioclavicular joint, typically after a direct blow or fall, causing pain, swelling, tenderness, and sometimes a visible bump, with the joint stabilized by the acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligaments.
ouch

 >>/57716/
I've had my collarbone broken and dislocated when I was 17 (height of jackass popularity, we were doing head on collisions while going into upright slide on a piece of ice in winter), had to have that Kirschner wire to hold it together. It is was fine fairly quickly, I do have a big scar and my shoulder is a bit lower.
This sounds more gnarly and potentially way more consequential when he gets old.
