Merry Christmas,
Only two beers remains. The second to last, is Dreams of Brew York, by Brew York. A Pastry Sour of 6.5% VOL.
Pastry beer are very sweet, especially pastry stouts that are so sweet they can still be tasted and enjoyed despite enjoying a chocolate cake.
A pastry sour should be sweet as well, but that also depends very much on the yeast used, as wild yeast often produces a taste that is more familiar to vinegar, than anything else.
Sour beer is a relatively new kind of style, and popular among women. The base is a wheat ale, and thus the ale is top-fermented, allowing it to also bring out the fruitiness in the hops used. Additional fruit is then added either during boil or during fermentation, allowing plenty additional fruity notes. The following berries has been used for this particular brew: black, blue and raspberries.
The beer pours a dark red as blood colour, leaving a very foamy pink head.
First smelling with the right nostril, it becomes immediately apparent that this brew indeed contains vanilla. Among the vanilla scents, is that of... well, berries.
Moving on to the left nostril, the berry scents become a bit stronger. The beer very much smells like a berry field during summer. Fresh, and cozy.
Its taste is very fruity. The berries taste quite strongly, with a mild sourness. The sourness becomes stronger if you slurp or smack. After the sourness and fruitiness disappears, you get a lingering taste of berry shells and the sweetness of vanilla.
Its body is round and provides a good mouthfeel. This last part can probably be contributed to the lactose, which this beer and many other pastries, often contains.
Merry Christmas
