Iraq bans LGBT people

The law, passed by Iraq's parliament on Saturday, is designed to "protect Iraqi society from the moral decay and calls for homosexuality that have swept the world."

The Anti-Prostitution and Homosexuality Act, dubbed an attempt to uphold the religious values of the Islamic nation, states that same-sex relationships are now banned in Iraq and punishable by 10 to 15 years in prison.

The law says anyone who "promotes" homosexuality or prostitution faces at least seven years in prison. A previous version of the bill provided for the death penalty for same-sex relationships, but the clause was removed in the amendment amid sharp opposition from the US and European countries.

The law also provides jail time of one to three years for anyone who changes their "biological sex" or dresses feminine.

The world is changing rapidly. Just yesterday, I could boast that Iraq is actually a rather secular and progressive country where same-sex relationships are legal.
But that changed today. The world is changing horribly and you should not turn a blind eye to it in the hope that ignoring the problem will save you.
