The only reason we consider Symphogear mecha is that Hibiki is considered to have 熱血, it's actually a magical girl show. That goes the same for Yuki Yuna and Nanoha. But while we're talking about Nanoha: the only thing mechamusume in it is Subaru and Ginga are cyborgs while the Grimore agents are digital constructs. 

But are digital constructs mecha?  Is Cortana or Shodan mecha?

Honestly is there a pilot in mecha that has done any of the insane feats Uso has done in V Gundam? Gif related, one of the craziest stunts he did. For those who have not seen the show this is what's happening.

My blood pressure rose a unit in maybe ten seconds, but then I settled on that I really see no problem with that. Iron giant already elegantly represents the Toku giant alien robot because both were based on the early 1900's sci-fi boom. It kinda feels like complaining Mickey Mouse being replaced by an off-brand but accurate Felix the Cat, so I won't.

The mix of hydrolic and artificial muscles with minimal use of servos seems to be the future. But as artificial muscles get better I do see servers dying out. Dunbine, Gasaraki and King Gainer are some of my favorite mecha due to their use of artificial muscles.
