Similar story to yours. I was backing up the whole site and would have finished in time if it lasted until May 31st. wget isn't too good when dealing with site backups: it can't take "--recursive --convert-links" and "--no-clobber" at the sime time, "--convert-links" makes it redownloading all the files. And there's "--timestamping" which also conflicting with "--recursive".
