In Germany, early Saturday morning, environmental activists from the organization “Last Generation” entered the inner range of the airport in Munich and glued themselves to the runway.
More than 60 takeoffs and landings were canceled, but the airport management soon managed to normalize the situation. At seven o'clock in the morning, the first liner started from the northern runway.
In a press release, The Last Generation reports that six people entered the airfield at 04:45 a.m. in two groups at various locations. After they glued to the runway, all exits from the two terminals were blocked. To get to the airfield, activists made holes in the fence of the airport.
“Scenes of climate destruction with the help of fossil energy sources will continue to be intensively visited,” activists said in connection with the blockade of the airport.
Police detained six protesters and two members of the group who helped them cut the fence. All detainees will be prosecuted for dangerous interference with air traffic.
By their actions, members of the Last Generation group intended to remind passengers at the beginning of the extended weekend on the eve of the Trinity holiday about the harmfulness of flights. According to activists, about 10% of Germans are responsible for warming and climate change. Activists demand decisive action by politicians to avert climate catastrophe.
“Such criminal actions pose a danger to aircraft traffic and damage climate protection, as they only cause misunderstanding,” German Interior Minister Nancy Fezer said. She called for consistent punishments of perpetrators and a review of airport protection measures.
Activists responded by tweeting that Feather “promises enhanced security measures to protect political lies and airline profits.”.
