Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban have almost reached an oil and gas deal with Russia. Transactions will pass through third countries due to sanctions. Acting Minister of Trade and Industry Nuruddin Aziz said that the money to pay for oil and gas will pass through third countries, as Russian and Afghan banks are under sanctions.
Nuruddin Aziz also added that he conveyed an official invitation to the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov during a visit to the region. According to him, an official agreement on the purchase of oil and gas will be signed when Minnikhanov arrives in Afghanistan. “They are ready and willing to accept our invitation and may do so soon. When they arrive in Afghanistan, we will sign official agreements, Aziz said.
