Boeing Whistleblower Found Dead in Charleston After Break in Depositions

Boeing whistleblower John Barnett was found dead in his truck at a hotel in Charleston, South Carolina after a break in depositions in a whistleblower retaliation lawsuit.

That’s according to Barnett’s lawyer Brian Knowles.
In an email to Corporate Crime Reporter, Knowles wrote that Barnett “was supposed to do day three of his deposition here in Charleston on his AIR21 case.” (AIR21 refers to a federal law that provides whistleblower protection for employees in the aviation industry.) 
“Today is a tragic day,” Knowles wrote. “John had been back and forth for quite some time getting prepared. The defense examined him for their allowed seven hours under the rules on Thursday. I cross examined him all day yesterday (Friday) and did not finish. We agreed to continue this morning at 10 a.m. (co-counsel) Rob (Turkewitz) kept calling this morning and his (Barnett’s) phone would go to voicemail. We then asked the hotel to check on him. They found him in his truck dead from an ‘alleged’ self-inflicted gunshot. We drove to the hotel and spoke with the police and the coroner.”
For almost three decades, John Barnett was a quality manager at Boeing. For 28 of those years, he was with Boeing in Everett, Washington.
Barnett loved Boeing. He loved Boeing planes. He loved his work. Then in 2010, Barnett was transferred to Boeing’s new plant in Charleston, South Carolina.  That’s where Boeing builds the 787 Dreamliner. And things started going downhill.
“The new leadership didn’t understand processes,” Barnett told Corporate Crime Reporter in an interview in 2019. The new leadership team – from my director down – they all came from St. Louis, Missouri. They said they were all buddies there.”
“That entire team came down. They were from the military side. My impression was their mindset was – we are going to do it the way we want to do it. Their motto at the time was – we are in Charleston and we can do anything we want.”
“They started pressuring us to not document defects, to work outside the procedures, to allow defective material to be installed without being corrected. They started bypassing procedures and not maintaining configurement control of airplanes, not maintaining control of non conforming parts –  they just wanted to get the planes pushed out the door and make the cash register ring.”
Barnett had been speaking to reporters recently about Boeing production issues, including the incident involving the mid-air blow out of a door plug on an Alaska Airlines flight on January 5, causing decompression of the airplane. 
“Once you understand what’s happening inside of Boeing, you’ll see why we’re seeing these kinds of issues,” Barnett told ABC News in Australia in late January.

I don't know whether Boeing is becoming corrupted, but can't help but wonder whether a lot of the bad news could be a setup. 
Boeing and AirBus have had an ongoing conflict for DECADES because Boeing's philosophy has been to let the PILOT fly the plane (or at least have the final say) whereas AirBus places its confidence more in the COMPUTER.

Former Boeing employees warn production defects ignored by company and US aviation regulator put passengers at risk

Whistleblowers are warning production defects on Boeing planes haven't been addressed by the company or the US regulator, putting travellers at greater risk of being involved in an incident.

'A slow erosion of culture'
Aviation consultant Neil Hansford agrees with the general assessment from aviation experts worldwide that the problems with Boeing began two decades ago when it merged with rival company McDonnell Douglas. The takeover slowly eroded the culture of the more than 100-year-old company, Mr Hansford told the ABC. "This is all about culture," he explained. "Boeing was run by engineers. And everything was motivated by engineers. And part of that was excellence, and safety and security.
"Then in came McDonnell Douglas … Engineers have been driven down the hill and replaced by accountants, and the management style just hasn't worked.
When Boeing's rival Airbus was set to release a new plane around a decade ago, Boeing rushed to find a model that could compete. Instead of building an entirely new model, which would have taken far longer at greater expense, the company redesigned its hit 737 plane, a best-seller that had been around for decades, creating the 737 MAX.
But due to the bigger engine on the old design, the MCAS software was required to automatically activate during flight and prevent the plane's nose from tipping up.
The problem was, Boeing didn't tell pilots about it (as it was supposed to be a passive, background system) and in 2018[Lion Air accident: October 29, 2018], and then again in 2019 [Ethiopian Airlines accident: March 10, 2019], the system malfunctioned and sent planes into a violent nose dive, with the resulting crashes killing all on board both flights — 346 people in total.

American Airlines mechanic accused of attempted sabotage of flight with 150 on board

A mechanic for American Airlines was arrested Thursday and accused of trying to sabotage a commercial airliner shortly before it was set to take off from Miami International Airport for the Bahamas with 150 people on board.
Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani has been charged with "willfully damaging, destroying, disabling, or wrecking an aircraft, and attempting to do so," according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court.
Alani allegedly tried to damage or disable the aircraft's air data module (ADM) system, which reports aircraft speed, pitch and other critical data, on July 17.
On Thursday, investigators interviewed Alani and he "admitted that he accessed the ADM" and that he "inserted a piece of foam into the ADM's inlet where the line connects and that he applied super glue to the foam so as to prevent the foam from coming off," the complaint says.
"Alani stated that his intention was not to cause harm to the aircraft or its passengers," investigators say in the complaint.
The court documents say Alani told investigators that he was upset over a contract dispute between union workers and the airlines, and the dispute had cost him money.
Alani allegedly explained that he tampered with the aircraft so he could get overtime working on the plane.
As the plane went down the runway and pilots increased power to the engines, there was an error related to the ADM system and the takeoff was aborted.
The aircraft returned to the concourse and no one on board was injured, the complaint says.
American Airlines mechanics immediately inspected the aircraft and "discovered a loosely connected pitot tube, which connects directly to the ADM" and determined "the ADM appeared to have been deliberately obstructed with what appeared to be a dark Styrofoam-type material," according to the complaint.
Authorities used surveillance video to identify Alani, the document says.

2) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau demonstrates wilful blindness of the profound impact of mortgage fraud on Canadians. Mortgage fraud is a major contributor to Canada’s current housing affordability crisis. Regrettably, as reported by The Bureau on March 1, 2024, $65,000 was transferred in June 2016 after a LPC 2016 fundraiser to the Prime Minister’s Papineau Federal Liberal Association, from over 40 Vancouver-area donors. Four of those donations reportedly came from directors of Tiger Arms.

3) There are specific actions that the federal government and the Federal Liberal Agency of Canada (FLAC/LPC ) can take to immediately address the critical issues arising from The Bureau’s reporting.
