Organizers of the Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa have asked a court to unfreeze $450,000 in donations they received so they can pay for lawyers to represent them at an upcoming public inquiry into the Emergencies Act.

Money given to the convoy through crowdfunding platforms GoFundMe and GiveSendGo was put into escrow under court order, pending a proposed class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of Ottawa residents and businesses.

In a span of just seven days, law enforcement agents in California arrested 141 people in a wide-ranging crackdown on child sex predators, authorities announced Wednesday.

The operation, dubbed “Protect the Innocent,” involved 64 agencies across five California counties.

“The goal of Operation Protect the Innocent was to conduct investigations and arrests by utilizing (CyberTips) received, identifying suspects for arrest, and contacting individuals on probation and/or parole,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.

Warrants were served at homes in L.A., Orange, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, resulting in 141 arrests.

Among those arrests, 110 were for child pornography-related charges. Others included sexual abuse of a child, statutory rape, pimping, and parole violations.

A confounding series of school shooting hoaxes have been reported to police across California and Texas in the past two days.

In Fresno, Houston and several locales in between, the calls have all been similar, the Los Angeles Times reported. Each time, single caller reported an active shooter on school grounds, with multiple people shot.

The horrifying reports have sent flurries of law enforcement officers to all the schools, only for the cops to find nothing but confused staffers and terrified students.

“There is a SWAT team going classroom to classroom at Heights High School in Houston Texas and I am scared s—less,” one person wrote Tuesday on Twitter. “This is the new reality for our kids who are just trying to learn and live another day!”

Heights High in Houston was one of four schools targeted by hoaxes on Tuesday, Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported. Fake shootings were also called in at Waco High School, Whitney Elementary School in Whitney and Connally High School in Pflugerville.

On Tuesday in California, fake shootings were reported at Madera High School in the state’s Central Valley and at Hollywood High in Los Angeles.

Five more fake California shootings were reported on Wednesday: at Lancaster High, north of Los Angeles; Bullard High in Fresno; Mater Dei High and Santa Rosa High in Chula Vista, south of San Diego; and Bishop Diego High in Santa Barbara.

Police have not publicly identified suspects who may have been behind the bogus calls.

Sources told KTRK that the same phone number was behind all the Texas calls on Tuesday, but any connection to the hoaxes in California remains unclear.

Germany has suspended the use of AstraZeneca Plc’s Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

Germany’s move comes amid a growing health scare that is creating yet another delay in the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccthe European Union and other regions.

S Bloomberg report Monday said the country cited the recommendation of the Paul Ehrlich Institute, which oversees vaccine safety, quoting a statement from the health ministry on Monday.

The report said that Germany joined about a dozen places, including Northern Italy, the Netherlands and Ireland, that had halted use of the product amid reports of serious blood clotting.

“It’s yet another blow to a vaccination campaign that’s proving embarrassingly slow and politically damaging for governments across the EU,” the Bloomberg report noted.

It said that while regulators had tried to reassure the public about safety of the AstraZeneca shot, concerns eere growing. Some Italian regions are reporting a high level of cancellations of vaccine appointments where the dose offered is the Astra one.

Authorities in Italy have also seized hundreds of thousands of Astra shots as part of their response,” it said.
