(Reuters) - Billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has sold some more shares of Bank of America over the past few days, raking in $981.9 million, as the conglomerate continues to trim down its stake in the second-largest U.S. lender.

Berkshire has now shed about $5.4 billion worth of Bank of America shares in a string of sales since mid-July.

The conglomerate sold about 24.7 million shares of the lender between Aug. 23 and Aug. 27, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday.

Sea-Tac Airport preps for 'high' Labor Day travel amid cyberattack issues

Sea-Tac Airport cyberattack impacts stretch into fourth day
On Saturday, the Port of Seattle noticed "nefarious characters" on their system, leading to web system outages and delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Now, with busy Labor Day travel conditions expected, the incident reaches into its fourth day.

SEATTLE - Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is navigating the ongoing impacts of a recent cyberattack as it prepares for a busy Labor Day weekend, airport officials said Wednesday. 
While essential services like aircraft departures, arrivals, and TSA checkpoints remain operational, some airport systems and services are still disrupted.
According to Perry Cooper, media relations manager at SEA, the airport’s website, WiFi and phone systems continue to be affected by the cyberattack, with some email access restored for staff. Travelers are advised to stay updated through SEA's temporary microsite as the main portseattle.org URL redirects there for essential information.
"Aircraft operations are not impacted by the cyberattack," Cooper said. "However, flight and baggage information displays are down, and common-use system outages are affecting smaller volume and international carriers. Additional SEA staff in green are available throughout the terminal to assist travelers."
Despite the cyber challenges, most travelers will see minimal disruptions. TSA checkpoints are running efficiently, with wait times under 30 minutes, aided by four new lanes added in June at Checkpoints 2 and 3. Perry notes that in July, 93% of travelers cleared security in under 30 minutes, with 74% in less than 20 minutes.

For the upcoming Labor Day weekend, SEA anticipates high passenger volumes, although not surpassing the record-breaking days seen earlier in August. The busiest travel days are expected to be Monday, Sept. 2, with about 193,000 passengers, followed by Friday, Aug. 30, with 187,000 passengers.
SEA officials encourage travelers to plan ahead

Arrive early: At least two hours before domestic flights and three hours for international flights.
Alternate transportation: Use public transit, ride-hailing services or shuttle services to avoid congestion at the airport.
Check for updates: Some international and smaller carriers may still be experiencing longer check-in times due to the cyberattack.

SEA is currently undergoing major construction projects, including the SEA Gateway project near Alaska Airlines ticketing and the Checkpoint 1 relocation in the Gina Marie Lindsey Arrivals Hall. Travelers can track construction impacts and learn more about ongoing projects at Upgrade SEA.

A suspected cyberattack Saturday is still slowing down services at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac Airport) and all Port of Seattle operations.
“There’s currently no estimated point of return,” for affected services, Sea-Tac Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper said, opening the press conference. He reminded travelers to rely on their airline’s website, apps and other sources for information as the relevant services from the airport are still down.
Alaska Airlines, Delta and other major airlines who do not share counters in the terminal area are less impacted than airlines like Frontier, Sun Country and Spirit, Cooper said.
Some airlines — like the ones using shared working space at Sea-Tac Airport — are having to resort to using pen and paper to track baggage, as their companies have not brought in their own computers so they rely on airport’s, Cooper added.
“International is a challenge,” Cooper said to KIRO Newsradio before the press conference. This is because they share counters with other airlines, they have lower staff and they are having to handle baggage operations with handwritten notes.
Sea-Tac Airport’s X account, @flySEA, reported Monday afternoon that Visitor Pass and Airport Lost and Found are not accessible at this time.
Cooper said at the press conference Monday TSA systems are unaffected because they use independent systems from the port. He also confirmed to KIRO Newsradio there have been no issues or trouble with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and air traffic control.
The investigation is still ongoing but, to this point, he has seen “no indication” of compromised passenger information. Cooper says Sea-Tac Airport is working with federal agencies, including the FBI. The level of disruption on the Port of Seattle still isn’t known. The port’s websites, including the Sea-Tac Airport pages, remained unavailable for users as of 5:15 p.m. Monday. A temporary website has been created for those interested in getting regular updates about what’s happening at the airport. The Port of Seattle Maritime Facilities phone systems are down as a part of the outage, according to a post published on X just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Trouble for travelers at Sea-Tac Airport
Some arriving passengers at Sea-Tac Airport are still dealing with issues getting their bags quickly after the suspected cyberattack. An airport official told KIRO Newsradio Monday the barcode scanner inside the conveyor belt system isn’t working, so extra staff are picking up slack.
Carousels in the baggage claim area were running Monday morning, but some of the information screens aren’t showing which flight goes where. So, families are listening for updates over the PA system and then they’re hurrying to the carousel.
A spokesperson for Alaska Airlines said staff was manually sorting over 7,000 bags, because “a majority” of checked bags missed their flights over the weekend, The Seattle Times reported.
KIRO Newsradio also discovered issues on the main floor at the airport. Self-service check-in terminals are giving the Windows “blue screen of death,” noting that “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.” Meanwhile, multiple Spirit Airlines customers said to KIRO Newsradio agents’ computers are down and they have been waiting at check-in for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Those people were probably about halfway to the front.
In the international area, passengers headed to Frankfurt had waited 1 1/2 hours to move about 50 feet from the start of the line. They had about 2/3 of the way to go, around 3:30 p.m., while trying to make a 5 p.m. flight. Despite the issues some customers faced, Cooper has credited the airlines with bringing in extra staff and playing catch up. He was not seeing as many delays Monday as over the weekend. “We’re doing better today than last couple days,” Cooper said to KIRO Newsradio.

The numbers seen on FlightAware, the website that tracks the status of flights and when they’re leaving and arriving at airports, appears to be backing up Cooper’s assertion as 218 flights at Sea-Tac Airport have been delayed and seven have been canceled as of 5:15 p.m. Monday.
On Sunday, 503 flights were delayed at Sea-Tac Airport and five flights were canceled, according to FlightAware reported. The number of delays had risen steadily through the day with a spike in the afternoon and another one at night as there were 375 delays reported at 8 p.m., 322 delays reported at around 5 p.m., 144 delays at noon, 73 delays at 9 a.m. and 23 delays at 5:10 a.m.
On Saturday, 342 flights were delayed at Sea-Tac Airport and six flights were canceled. That number rose steadily through the night. More were delayed leaving the airport (197) than arriving (145).

How we got here: ‘Possible cyberattack’ hits Sea-Tac Airport
Cooper said investigators are still trying to determine the nature of the cyber attack, he said airport personnel noticed “nefarious characters” in the system early Saturday and administrators decided to shut the whole system down.
Just after 9 a.m. Saturday is when the Port of Seattle and the airport began publicly alerting the problem to potential issues. That is the time the Port of Seattle first detailed the issues in a post on X. A post on @flySEA at that time encouraged passengers to check with their airlines for the latest for their flights as well.
The initial communication from the Port of Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport did not indicate the internet outage may have come from any sort of cyber attack. However, just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the Sea-Tac Airport X account published another X post stating the port “experienced certain system outages indicating a possible cyberattack.” Sea-Tac Airport also previously wrote on X it is “working closely with appropriate authorities and partners to help travelers who may be impacted.”

Recommendations for travelers going to Sea-Tac Airport
Sea-Tac Airport has been active about providing various recommendations to those who are traveling while this outage is happening. KIRO Newsradio and MyNorthwest have compiled the following tips:

Customers should use the app for the airline they are flying instead of the airport app. For passengers who don’t need to check a bag, don’t do it. International travelers should arrive early for checking in and checking their bag. Reminder for passengers: The standard TSA rules apply, including the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule. Travelers can get assistance on @flySEA social media and on this Customer Care Connect website.

POTTERVILLE, Mich. (WLNS) — Former President Donald Trump will speak at Alro Steel just outside the city of Potterville on Thursday. However, there are scant details on where anyone can see the Republican candidate’s motorcade or what traffic issues the motorcade may cause in the Capital region.
Potterville Mayor Jennifer Lenneman told 6 News city, county, state and federal law enforcement have been planning since last Friday for the former president’s visit.

US Government-Funded Censorship Arm ‘Atlantic Council’ Targeted Telegram Just Two Months Before Durov Arrest

French authorities arrested Russian-born dual UAE-French citizen Pavel Durov last weekend as he disembarked his private plane in Paris. Durov, who is the CEO and founder of popular messaging app Telegram, faces a number of serious charges from French authorities ranging from drug offenses to child sexual exploitation offenses.
Of course, none of these charges have anything to do with Durov directly but rather refer to activity that allegedly occurred on Telegram, Durov’s privacy-focused messaging app that boasts nearly 1 billion active users. It is unclear from the charging documents what exactly the French authorities’ argument is regarding Durov’s culpability, and French President Emmanuel Macron defensively took to X (formerly Twitter) to assure the public that the arrest wasn’t “political.” Nonetheless, it’s extraordinarily unlikely that Durov’s arrest is unconnected to Durov’s well-known refusals to cooperate with intelligence agencies’ censorship and law enforcement requests. Furthermore, it is inconceivable that Durov’s arrest would occur without the foreknowledge and implicit approval, if not direct complicity and urging, of the United States government. There are even reputable reports that Macron himself may have lured Durov in for his arrest, as Durov apparently told French authorities that he traveled to Paris at the invitation of Macron to have dinner with the French President. Odd indeed.
Suspicions regarding the timing and possible US complicity in Durov’s arrest are heightened by virtue of a DFR Lab-sponsored conference attacking Telegram’s refusal to censor information relevant to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Atlantic Council’s DFR Lab is a major censorship arm of the US regime, whose censorship activities were prominently featured in the recently released Twitter Files, as well as the associated testimony of Shellenberger to the Judiciary Committee.
    Digital Forensics Research (DFR) Lab at the Atlantic Council. The lab is one of the most established and influential full-time censorship institutions in the world.17 Atlantic Council DFR Lab created the foreign-facing DisinfoPortal in June 2018, working directly with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and 23 organizations to censor election narratives leading up to the 2019 elections in Europe.18 In 2018, Facebook named Atlantic Council, an official partner in “countering disinformation” worldwide.19 US taxpayer funding to the Atlantic Council comes from the Defense Department, the US Marines, the US Air Force, the US Navy, the State Department, USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy, as well as energy companies and weapons manufacturers.
    The Stanford Internet Observatory, the University of Washington, the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, and Graphika all have inadequately-disclosed ties to the Department of Defense, the C.I.A., and other intelligence agencies. They work with multiple U.S. government agencies to institutionalize censorship research and advocacy within dozens of other universities and think tanks.
As though it’s not suspicious enough that the Atlantic Council is funded by US government intelligence agencies, the Atlantic Council was also infamously funded by notorious Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Pinchuk (more on this below). Thus we see the convenient timing that two months after the Atlantic Council (censorship cutout of the US government) singles out Telegram’s problematic refusal to censor information in the Ukraine war, Durov is arrested in France. This is consistent with the findings of Mike Benz, a former State Department official and world authority on the censorship-industrial complex. Benz has reported US government-funded outlets like Radio Free Europe singling out Telegram for attack along a similar timeline (shortly after Durov’s interview with Tucker Carlson four months ago).
Durov’s arrest is without question a significant flashpoint in the critical and disturbing developments at the intersection of online censorship and geopolitics. The arrest not only confirms but also escalates a pattern that we have identified in previous pieces, whereby regimes have transitioned from mere repetitional and deplatforming attacks to the arrest, indictment, and imprisonment of those who engage in or facilitate unapproved speech. While conventional censorship in the form of deplatforming still takes place, Elon Musk’s acquisition and subsequent reorientation of Twitter in a free speech direction has significantly limited the regime’s ability to engage in censorship in the conventional sense that was revealed in the Twitter files.
Indeed, censorship on the level of the US government effectively pressuring platforms like Twitter to censor inconvenient stories (such as the Hunter laptop story) likely reached its high water mark in 2020. In the aftermath of Elon’s acquisition of Twitter and a broader tech alignment toward MAGA (with Microsoft as a conspicuous pro-Kamala holdout), even Mark Zuckerberg has recently publicly praised Trump and openly acknowledged Facebook’s role in censorship in 2020 at the behest of the national security state. Even some of the major university centers that had been dedicated to promoting the “disinformation” pretext for online censorship have gone defunct, such as Stanford University’s disgraced censorship think tank, the Stanford Internet Observatory. Such institutions were major incubators of the kind of “disinformation”-based censorship that peaked so aggressively in 2020.
Just because conventional “deplatforming”-style censorship peaked in 2020 does not mean the regime has given up. Not by a long shot. What it means is that the regime has to adapt and change its approach, and as we have mentioned above and elsewhere, this involves not just censoring and attacking, but indicting, arresting and imprisoning.
    And even for those who are in the political space, there is another thing to consider: if doxxing and socially-driven “cancellation” are receding as viable regime weapons for ideological control, there are other weapons there to replace them.
   Cancellation is a powerful tool of soft social control. It’s the power to get dozens, if not hundreds, of people and organizations to collude to isolate a person and demolish their life without having to exercise a single law or employ the state’s monopoly on organized violence. But never forget: The regime still has those tools. So as the soft tool of doxxing wanes, expect the regime to increase its use of more direct methods of ideological control.
   But Douglass Mackey is probably the best example of all. Unlike Jones or Trump, he was an anon when he committed his “offenses.” He was targeted not for public political activity but for private actions. And yet, nevertheless, the Department of Justice went through the effort of warping a 150-year-old law, the Ku Klux Klan Act, so that it could justify trying to throw Mackey in prison for posting an anti-Hillary Clinton meme.
   Expect the Mackey model to be employed more and more often, on flimsier and flimsier pretexts. Because when a regime can’t use shame to destroy its foes, there is always force.

The “Mackey model” above refers to the case of Douglass Mackey, an American citizen who was arrested, tried, and convicted of a felony for distributing memes mocking Hillary Clinton in 2016. If the regime is less able to use disinformation as a censorship pretext to pressure Twitter to deplatform users, Mackey’s case represents a thus-far successful attempt (the case is currently on appeal) to codify much of the disinformation scam into criminal law. Furthermore, Durov’s arrest might be best understood as a complement to the Mackey model. If Mackey’s arrest represents the regime’s willingness to attack and arrest citizens for unapproved speech, Durov’s arrest represents Western governments’ increasing willingness to arrest censorship-resistant tech CEOs for not playing ball like the regime lackeys that used to control Big Tech exclusively.
The dangerous precedent of the Durov arrest has elicited strong condemnation from Edward Snowden to Elon Musk.
Indeed, it’s hard not to view Durov’s arrest as a trial balloon for an imminent legal offensive on Musk, who has enraged EU authorities by refusing to cater to the censorship demands of the EU and US security establishment.
    Elon Musk’s social media platform X is in breach of the European Union’s online content law, according to preliminary findings by regulators that could lead to hefty fines for the company.
    The European Commission, the executive arm of the 27-member bloc, announced on Friday that the social media platform is violating the Digital Services Act (DSA) in areas linked to “dark patterns, advertising transparency and data access for researchers.”
The disgraced Alexander Vindman, notorious Russia-hoax impeachment operative, has made this explicit.
Apart from its relevance to free speech per se, the Durov case is also relevant to geopolitics. Indeed, Telegram is especially known for hosting a rich repository of unmediated footage from hot-button conflict zones such as Ukraine and Gaza. Telegram’s willingness to host such unmediated, unfiltered information about geopolitical hotspots could very well have put them in the crosshairs of a variety of nation states, including Israel (the leak of whose government files was published on a telegram channel), the Ukraine, and stakeholders in the Ukraine war such as the USA or France (footage confirming direct US and Western involvement in Ukraine has circulated on telegram for some time now). Indeed, just two months ago, the Atlantic Council’s “disinformation censorship” arm, DFR Lab, put out a video singling out Telegram for criticism. Two months later, Durov was arrested in France. Funny how that works!
The Atlantic Council, by the way, is funded by both the US Government and various Ukrainian oligarchs.
The larger geopolitical context of Durov’s arrest is perhaps the most interesting. Despite US regime propaganda trying to pin Durov as a Russian agent, Durov in fact lived as a Russian exile and was starkly at odds with the Russian government, precisely because he wouldn’t compromise Telegram’s privacy on behalf of Russia’s demands.
Durov’s life in UAE, which has staked out something of a neutral role in the US-Russia conflict as a geopolitical Switzerland, can be seen as an experimental attempt to live a life as a functionally stateless, neutral tech oligarch who shows neither fear nor favor to any of the multiple intelligence agencies approaching him. Durov’s recent arrest shows the limitations of this approach and seems to underscore that once one reaches a certain level in things, neutrality is impossible, and there is no escaping the great geopolitical/censorship chess game taking place for the highest stakes imaginable.
We hope we are wrong on this last point and will continue to follow this case with tremendous interest.
