ERC, or maybe rcirc. You do use Emacs, don't you? Do you want to miss out on all the advanced editing commands and utility commands like M-x spook while using IRC?

Well, terminal based clients are pure autism and Pidgin is not really made for IRC if you ask me.

vim irc plugin, because you know a text editor just needs irc for your copypastas, written in a free as in freedom editor named vim.

Terminal based EVERYTHING is autism (window managers, aalib graphics and browsers trying into CSS/images come to mind), but this does not cancel the fact terminals are nice for displaying text.

fork of xchat cuz no windows builds. Yep, no Windows, what a loss. Also cannot disable VERSION CTCP response, says CPU and RAM info there. That's a flaw harming anonymity.

Xchat hasn't had a real release in six years, or any sort of update in three years. It's dangerously unmaintained.

Run "/set irc_hide_version on".
