CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) --- A legislator in South Carolina has had his law license suspended after a former client accused him of forging his signature to reach a settlement in a lawsuit without his permission.

Democratic Rep. Marvin Pendarvis cannot practice law until the state Supreme Court lifts the suspension, justices said Friday in a written order.

The order didn't detail why the Office of Disciplinary Counsel recommended the suspension. Pendarvis has not responded publicly to the lawsuit against him by former client Adrian Lewis. A call to his law office number went unanswered Friday.

Lewis has hired a different lawyer who held a news conference detailing the malpractice allegations against Pendarvis after filing a lawsuit last month.

Lewis sued the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office over his arrest in 2021. Pendarvis told him his case was worth up to $325,000 but then settled it for $10,000 without Lewis knowing, the new lawyer said.

KINSHASA, May 19 (Reuters) - The leader of an attempted coup on Sunday in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been killed and some 50 people including three American citizens arrested, a spokesman for the Central African country's army told Reuters.
Gunfire rang out around 4 a.m. in the capital Kinshasa, a Reuters reporter said. Armed men attacked the presidency in the city centre, according to spokesman Sylvain Ekenge.
Another attack took place at the nearby home of Vital Kamerhe, a member of parliament who is tipped to become speaker, Kamerhe's spokesman, Michel Moto Muhima, and the Japanese ambassador said in posts on X.
Moto Muhima said two guards and an attacker had been killed in that incident. Ekenge also said one attacker was killed there.
A shell fired from Kinshasa hit the city of Brazzaville in neighbouring Republic of Congo, injuring several people, that country's government said in a statement, adding that one person had been hospitalised.
Ekenge named Christian Malanga, a U.S.-based Congolese politician, as the leader of the attempted coup.
"Malanga was definitively neutralised during the attack on the Palais de la Nation, a certain Aboubacar was neutralised during the attack on the residence of Vital Kamarhe [and] the others - around 50 including three American citizens - were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation by the specialised services of the Armed Forces," Ekenge told Reuters.
He said Malanga first attempted and aborted a coup in 2017 and that one of the American citizens arrested was Malanga's son.
A Facebook page appearing to belong to Malanga posted a live-streamed video of what appeared to be the attack.
"We, the militants, are tired. We cannot drag on with Tshisekedi and Kamerhe, they have done too many stupid things in this country," Malanga said in Lingala in the video, which has not been independently verified by Reuters.
U.S. Ambassador Lucy Tamlyn said in a post on social media that she was "very concerned" by reports that American citizens had allegedly been involved in the events.
"Please be assured that we will cooperate with the DRC authorities to the fullest extent as they investigate these criminal acts and hold accountable any U.S. citizen involved in criminal acts," she said.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s military said it had thwarted an “attempted coup” near the offices of President Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa involving “foreigners and Congolese”.
It happened in the early hours of the morning outside the residence of Economy Minister Vital Kamerhe, in the Gombe area in the north of the capital, near the Palais de la Nation that houses the president’s offices, a spokesman said on Sunday. “An attempted coup d’etat has been stopped by the defence and security forces,” said General Sylvain Ekenge in a message broadcast on national television. Shots were also heard near the Palais de la Nation at the time of the coup attempt, according to a number of sources.
Later on Sunday, army spokesman General Sylvain Ekenge said several Americans and a British man were part of the group involved in the operation. The coup bid was led by Christian Malanga, a Congolese man who was a “naturalised American” and had been “definitively neutralised” – killed – by the security forces, Ekenge said in a broadcast on Sunday evening. The group was made up of “several nationalities”, Ekenge said, adding that around 40 of the attackers had been arrested, and four – including Malanga – killed. “We also have a naturalised British subject, the number two of the group,” the spokesman added. Malanga’s son, Marcel Malanga, was also among the attackers, he said. Kamerhe and his family were not harmed in the attack but two police officers looking after them were killed, said a source close to the minister. The group had planned to attack the home of the new Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, and the residence of Defence Minister Jean-Pierre Bemba. But they “could not identify the home” of Suminwa and had not been able to find Bemba at his residence.
After the attack at Kamerhe’s home, the group then went to the Palais de la Nation, brandishing flags of Zaire, the name of the Democratic Republic of Congo under the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, who was overthrown in 1997. “I am shocked by the events this morning and very worried by the reports of American citizens allegedly being involved,” Lucy Tamlyn, the US ambassador to the DRC, posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Rest assured that we are cooperating with authorities in DRC to the fullest extent possible, as they investigate these criminal acts and hold accountable any American citizen involved.”
France’s ambassador had reported automatic weapon fire in the area, urging nationals to avoid it.
During the day, certain streets near the Palais de la Nation remained closed to traffic, but the situation appeared calm. “I’m a little afraid to move around like that in Gombe, there aren’t many people … But I have to sell my goods,” bread-seller Jean-Mbuta said.
Videos on social media showed men in fatigues at the Palais de la Nation, brandishing flags of Zaire. The Zaire flag was mostly green while the DRC one is largely blue.
“The time has arrived, long live Zaire, long live the children of Mobutu,” a man who appeared to be the head of the group said in Lingala, a language spoken in parts of the DRC. “Felix has fallen … we are victorious,” he added.
Tshisekedi was re-elected at the end of December when he received more than 70 per cent of votes in the first round. The parties backing him won around 90 per cent of seats in the parliamentary elections held the same day. But he is yet to form a government some five months after the elections. Kamerhe on April 23 was named as a candidate for president of the National Assembly, the DRC’s main legislative body.

Ebrahim Raisi was elected president by a general vote in 2021, at the age of 61. During his mandate, Iran reestablished diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia - without Western mediation. The country also vastly improved its ties with Russia, de-dollarized and expanded its economic ties with Russia and China. Last but not least, it was under Raisi that Iran became a full-fledged member of the BRICS+ organization.

Raisi was born into a family Raissi of a Shiite Islamic cleric in the city of Mashhad (the second largest city in Iran) on December 14, 1960. As a young man, he was a supporter of the Islamic Revolution of 1978-79 and reportedly took part in the student rebellion.

After graduating from an Islamic school in Qom and finishing his studies in Islamic law in Shaheed Motahari university, Raisi pursued a career in the country’s judicial system, serving as deputy prosecutor of Tehran from 1985 until 1989. He was later appointed to the position of a prosecutor of Tehran.

In 1994, he became the head of Iran’s General Inspection Organization, a position he held until 2004 when he was appointed a deputy Chief Justice of Iran. From 2012 until 2021, Raisi also held the office of the prosecutor general of the country's Special Court for the Clergy.

Who is Christian Malanga Musumari, the leader of this morning's attack in Congo?

Born in Kinshasa, February 2, 1983.
He is a former Congolese military officer who resides in the United States with his entire family.
He is currently president of the United Congolese Party (PCU), a national political party which he formed after his experiences during the 2011 parliamentary elections.

If I am brutally honest, nothing silent about it. I would call it an actively IGNORED GENOCIDE. An inconvenient genocide for Western powers. How is it that United Nations reports continuously come out detailing how #Rwanda backs terrorist groups that kill Congolese to steal minerals from #Congo and yet at the UN vote, the UN security council votes to not directly condemn Rwanda. Why is it that finally when #DRCongo has a government that:

1. Is going after illegal shadow subcontractors in the mining industry (source: https://twitter.com/MiguelKashal/status/1767856568089858548)

2. Is going after @Apple for conflict minerals and illegal mining (https://twitter.com/Com_mediasRDC/status/1783860209040937381)

3. Is building modern health centers, schools and administrative buildings in rural areas (@BCeCoRDC, @PNUDRDC, @DeCom_CFEF)

4. Finally builds roads, airports, rehabilitates hospitals, provides modern infrastructures, etc

5. Is renegotiating unfair contracts that were signed with Chinese companies years ago with the dictator of 18 years

6. That #CONGO is finally RISING

7. Finally building a strong military to protect itself

That now all of a sudden a random terrorist group (#M23_RDF_AFC) that happens to have anti-air missiles (wow where did they get that) and happens to have modern western weapons, comes in and starts killing Congolese citizens now. Oh, and they happen to only take over areas with minerals that the US, France, Britain and Israel need. Oh, and after they take over those mining areas, Rwanda's "mining sector" reaches high levels records of production and high levels of exports. Oh, and #France just happens to give more military funding to #Rwanda that year too. We need to #SanctionRwanda to #FreeCongo!!

He applauded Ford Motor Company for having manufactured over 50,000 ventilators since the beginning of the pandemic. The president also talked about bringing manufacturing jobs back to America, specifically in the auto industry, and said "the country is poised for an epic comeback." Ford Motor Company had to halt automobile production due to the pandemic, which was the first time they had to halt production since World War II. The president did not take any questions from reporters or audience members.

Gunfire erupts at Auburn park as youth baseball game is played nearby
A shooting happened at an Auburn park close to a ball field where youth teams from Puyallup and Arlington were playing on Sunday evening.

AUBURN, Wash. — What started as a Sunday game of America’s pastime turned terrifying for players and parents in Auburn when there was a shooting at a park close to the ball field where youth teams from Puyallup and Arlington were playing.
Someone with the team used the GameChanger app to livestream the game on the evening of May 19. Just before 8:15 p.m. during the last inning of the game, the sound of gunshots took over. 
"It was kind of a moment of confusion, everybody looking around wondering what that is, then kind of realizing that it is gunshots, people running off the field, hitting the turf,” Derek Jennings described. Jennings is the owner of New Level Baseball and shared the video with KING 5.
The team’s coach, Justin Gonzalez, said they were at bat when suddenly the players had to run for cover.
"I noticed there were five to six kids laying on the 9-year-old bat boy to make sure he didn't get hit with anything.” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez added that it sounded like they were in the middle of gunfire.
"This is extremely alarming. We want our parks to be safe places for people to go. We want people to go to their sons' and daughters' baseball and softball games and be able to enjoy their time without any fear,” said Kolby Crossley with Auburn Police.
Crossley said the sound on the ball field came from across the river at Isaac Evans Park where two groups were fighting. At least one person started shooting. Two females were injured, according to police.
