back from my ride. I rode to Zurich just to ride through the new dedicated tunnel for cyclists.
please understand, these Dutch cycling infrastructure project are new to us.
I probably annoyed some cyclists because I stopped at red lights and followed the traffic rules.

Everything has a general and everything has an autistic hobby group.
I bet there is a club of cardboard types enthusiasts and a guild of underwear rubber bands' collectors.

None tbh (to be honest, honest), I will go sometimes on some vidya general but I don't play new games anymore (HOMM3 right now).
I will go on /sci/ to find that one knower autist will shit out the replies I am looking for.
Maybe sometimes /biathlon/ when it is comfy wintertime.

can't find bertaczek on the PCS result page for the race he was supposed to do yesterday. the listed DNS are either too young (have hair) or too small.

 >>/16171/
Isn't he doing Krakonošův cyklomaraton? Thought this would be it, although he may have said he has to ride far for it.
But I am also pretty sure he throws in some fake news just to tie the pesky sniffers (us) in knots.

Bertele on the other hand is there in his race, a respectable finish.

hooo boy it's time for Blood Meridian thread #2823508851756. While we're at it may I tell you about our lord and savior Fjodor Michailowitsch DOSTOJEWSKI? What does He read?
What a shame really

 >>/16175/
I've meant the series that Krakonošův cyklomaraton is a part of.
Anyways, I remember seeing this race was going along the border, next to Zieleniec where I have been maybe in 1992 or something like that.

Not that jazzed about getting Brtek's name. I know both Berteles and now I have to actively forget I may have stumbled on anything about them just to not seem like a big fucking weirdo.

so have you all been enjoying QUINN sean's latest musical release? I personally found it to be lively, thematic, and generally inoffensive

Thanks, it's fun besides some boring situations like Bruxelles where it was just open wiki and copy the logo.
I think for the le Tour the cap will have some local theme added. No shortage of symbology in the la France.

Very good, very nice. Legit *nglo.
Had a breakfast outside second day in row, on my favorite chess board table still in the wider city center, where I used to have a drink stop in the evenings and posted wine photos from.
Thought about attention whoring with photos from the operation but it would be a bit much.
Brought a wooden board, a knoife, a slice of ham and all. Thought also about bringing my outdoor cartouche and boiling some water for tea but this would be again a bit much.

With the arrival of another great and much anticipated stage race, we return to the exciting world of /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !!

The Dauphine has a nice little lineup of wines selected and we begin in the Rhone Valley. Today's third stage crosses the Rhone at the 166km mark, racing directly through the St. Joseph appellation of the northern Rhone wine region. We have actually visited the northern Rhone in Paris-Nice, enjoying a modest bottle of Condrieu. Today's bottle is the other grape of the northern Rhone - Syrah. Here, in a narrow, tiny strip of hillsides along the Rhone running south from Lyon, the Syrah grape reaches its greatest expression on the planet. The places here are legendary - Cote Rotie, Hermitage, Cornas. This area grows wines of such depth, complexity, and sophistication that we may actually make up for the absolute horrors we endured drinking Aussie Shiraz in the Tour Down Under.

Today's wine is from another legend - Jean-Louis Chave. Jean-Louis is a SIXTEENTH-generation winemaker in the northern Rhone. His Hermitage rouge and blanc are widely considered the finest expressions of wine in the northern Rhone. I personally have never had a bottle of Chave Hermitage rouge. The single glass of 2003 Chave Hermitage blanc that I enjoyed was one of the most singular wine memories of my life. If you want to learn more, watch https://youtube.com/watch?v=ISf3hSIjCQU starting at 27:00 mark. The pertinent clip is about 5 minutes.

JL Chave has a nice little negociant business where he buys grapes from other farmers and then does the vinification himself. This group of wines - JL Chave Selection - offers some of the Chave magic for very reasonable prices, surely within the reach of any Bert.

Jean-Louis Chave Selection Offerus Saint-Joseph 2022 ($35).

Initial pop and pour. Pours a deep, dark purple/ruby. The nose is sensational - violets, blackberry, herbs, blood, pepper-crusted brisket. The palate upon initial opening has a violence to its tannic attack that demands respect. I let the glass sit for 30-40 mins. As it opens, beautiful structure declares itself. Blackberry fruit and game, then lifted acidity and tannic grip, then a long, deep finish of smoked meat and olive tapenade.

Amazing bottle. I bought two others to cellar and this will definitely benefit from some time. By far the best quality/price ratio of the year so far. I thought about buying a bottle of full blown Chave Saint-Joseph (~$110) but wanted to highlight one of my favorite value wines for the Berts.

 >>/16406/
Looks like this is a bit cheaper in the EU (can be had for $28-30 including VAT). I wanted to include this as an example of a phenomenal wine from a classic producer and region that can be had for a reasonable price.

The fate of all next remcos

Well my Assioma duos just started squaking today after roughly 2 years and 1000h of use. Did brtek ever get his fixed and what was the cure?

But in all seriousness, there's a difference between DUO SHI and normal DUOs.
The SHIs have a design defect that can only be overcome by applying kilograms of grease between the SHI body and the pedal.

As far as DUOs go, I think it might be just the bearings, they sell replacement bearings for some obscene amount.

 >>/16420/
one (1) singular bearing will be on its way out but theres no way of finding out which one so you gotta buy the whole replacement pack of low quality garbage hehe too bad piggy hehehe pay up

Hmm thanks for the input, I guess I have to pay up for the replacement bearings. No problems prior to today.
Quite a slog today with the training, was aiming for 3x8min at around 410W for some supra threshold work but it was really hard to generate power. I guess the illness is still taking its toll. Nationals this week on Sunday so I hope I'm fresh and recovered by then.

> What was supposed to be a festive day for Dutch cyclist Rico Van Damme ended in a minor way Tuesday night. While he was celebrating victory with his team in Belsele, his very expensive racing bike was stolen. The cyclist had crowned himself “Champion of the Waasland” that afternoon. But when he wanted to return home afterwards, he noticed that his competition bike had disappeared.
> Bike worth 18,000 euros
The stolen bike was painted in the colors of Cibel-Cebon and, according to the rider, has a value of 18,000 euros. "This was my success bike, I had already won 7 times with it this year," it sounds "There are only about 20 bikes of this type made, so no doubt the thief will not take it to the streets himself."

I’d be so mad

> After the successful spring of last year, Van der Poel dives into the wind tunnel for the first time in his life. In the Belgian Beringen, he tinkers with his time trial position, which immediately yields results in this Dauphiné. In the weeks that follow, he also does a number of training sessions on his time trial bike in Spain. “About five or six times. That is already something to get used to that position. It is at least five or six times more than normal, haha.” And so he sends a text message to Evenepoel asking if he can stay within a minute of him with his position.

> That doesn't quite work out – partly due to the efforts in the third stage: he has to give up a minute and two seconds to the Belgian. "I have broad shoulders, that's my problem a bit. Remco is very aerodynamic on both the regular and the time trial bike. I have to find the balance between sitting aerodynamically on the bike and delivering power. That's a bit of a game. It's not possible to come close to specialists like Remco. But I do want to get better at it. [...] Maybe I'll make another bet in the Tour later," he says undoubtedly with his characteristic grin.

Grug even trying to sell TT bikes now.

 >>/16644/
> Grug even trying to sell TT bikes now.
What else could it be other than sponsors pushing him? He seems like he just wants to ride spring classics and mountianbike. Why would he want to focus on time trials where he'll never win anything big?

oh no plugge bros

I think my bibs are on their way out
2 years, 20k km, not impressed
Main issue they no longer ... "keep shape", they keep moving up and down a little bit

 >>/16772/
My aliexpress bibs last around 2 years on average. Roughly 30k km. They begin to lose elasticity around 20-25k but I wait until end of season to replace them. They're only 45 leaf bucks each though so it's not as painful as spending 300 on one pair

 >>/16770/
I still don't understand what OneCycling is. An alternative point system with the same races and some final Saudi criterium for the top placed riders? New races not related to UCI? Have they made an article that describes exactly what OneCycling will look like?

> From 2026, the three best UCI ProTeams of the previous season will be automatically invited to all WorldTour races, including the three Grand Tours. The UCI announced this after a meeting of the Management Committee, on the recommendation of the Professional Cycling Council (PCC).

postNL/cofidis bros we are saved

 >>/16775/
> According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the men's teams that sign up to One Cycling will receive €1 million a year for the next three years, while women's teams will receive €250,000 per annum. One Cycling is expected to begin to generate revenue from a variety of sources that monetise racing and the fans but there are few details of how they will do that. Cycling is traditionally a free sport to watch from the roadside, while it is expensive to organise and broadcast.

> Het Laatste Nieuws recently suggested that One Cycling could include four new races, including an end-of-season race in Saudi Arabia, plus new races in Asia and North America. The UCI wants to control and approve any new races and formats. Cyclingnews understands that the One Cycling teams plan to carefully direct their biggest riders to clash more often in preferred races that do deals with One Cycling.

> Cyclingnews obtained a 150-page document in the spring of 2024 that detailed One Cycling’s strategy. It includes developing VIP hospitality areas at races and perhaps even charging fans to see races at specific locations. Digital technology and modern marketing techniques would be harnessed to monetise event rights, digital platforms, betting, gamification, merchandising and fan membership. No stone would be left unturned to find new revenue and monetise the sport.

> The initial report described One Cycling as a 'new competitive league'. However, One Cycling has since changed plans to create a new and alternative race calendar and so spark some kind of 'breakaway league' project as we've seen in golf and other sports. Instead, One Cycling hopes to gradually drive change in the sport instead of sparking a power struggle.

What is One Cycling? - Everything we know about the project that wants to revolutionise professional cycling

One Cycling is a secretive project created by several major teams and race organisers who want to work together to change professional cycling. Spearheaded by Visma-Lease a Bike manager Richard Plugge, the project aims to shake up professional cycling, with an external investor providing the millions needed to build a new business model for the sport and challenge the dominance of Tour de France organiser ASO.

As budgets and rider salaries increase to an average of over €25 million per season (no source), teams want to reduce their dependence on sponsorship and find new ways of funding their organisations. They hope to work with other stakeholders in the sport instead of compete with them, and 'grow the cake' so that everyone in the sport gets a bigger piece. They believe professional cycling is massively undervalued and far too precarious.

“It’s not about becoming rich (😬), it's about creating a better balance in the sport. We want to be fan-centric so that more people can understand and enjoy our sport,” someone close to the One Cycling project told Cyclingnews last year.

 >>/16775/
The articles are all about selling it and zero what it really is except we all get more money trust us goyim

 >>/16776/
They already invite the top 2 and give the 3rd invites to all one day races. If I read this right it just means the 3rd team also gets invites to stage races.
So it will benefit either Q36.5 or Tudor most likely.

 >>/16777/
So basically just the regular schedule but a Saudi crit nobody will give a shit about? Sounds like pure talk about profit with no talk about racing. Hope it will fail miserably.

 >>/16778/
> it's about creating a better balance in the sport. We want to be fan-centric so that more people can understand and enjoy our sport,” someone close to the One Cycling project told Cyclingnews last year.
lmao

 >>/16775/
a way to swindle saudi oil tycoons into thinking they can have ownership of an independent and profitable league while not actually pissing the UCI off by doing either of those things.

 >>/16779/
The plan was to force everybody to race all year by having team qualify to the tour during the rest of the season. Since ASO said fuck off they replace the last race by some saudi crit lmao.

Anyway, it's a fake plan to negotiate more money from ASO's tv rights

 >>/16781/
this, or they vastly overestimate the willingness of people to pay to watch cycling roadside
imagine going to the ventoux in the tour and it's completely gated behind a 50 euro price tag

but Belgians are the ones doing the VIP tent thing. VIP zone for the WC in Zurich last year was like the price of a standard UCI fine, but it was sold out.

 >>/16785/
im convinced plugge understands that the project is based off a completely fairytale revenue strategy and just hopes the investors won't see through the grift. not sure how much of this is wishful thinking. surely no one is THAT stupid. right.

 >>/16797/
im referring to plugge. it's one thing for some huckster in a boardroom to swindle a guy who's just waiting for the day to end so he can go back to his penthouse to take dumps on instagram models, its another for said huckster who has spent their entire lives around the sport and [should] have a deep understanding of the financial realities of cycling to think in such a way. richard your literally in the car, you can see how many people are on the roadside.

We're deep into another sensational French stage race and it's time for another /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !!

Today's stage appears to be the ONLY stage of the year that goes through Burgundy. This is frankly a great injustice and likely a personal slight against the /WTW/ offices. I considered a bottle of Fleurie (which was also on today's stage) but decided to honor The Greatest Wine Region on Earth (tm) with a bottle of white Burgundy from Macon. While the Macconais does not have the hype of the more famous wines from the Cote d'Or to the north, there is plenty of sensational white Burgundy made here for often a much more reasonable price than the big boys from the Cote de Beaune.

Guffens-Heynen "1er Jus de Chavigne' Macon-Pierreclos ($160)

Jean-Marie Guffens, also known as "The Mad Belgian", has been termed l'enfant terrible du les Maconnais by Jancis Robinson. Since 1980, he has been on a mission to prove that the Maconnais can make wines that stand up to their big brothers in the north. Iconoclastic, brusque, and impish, Jean-Marie favors highly concentrated wines utilizing late harvests, but then favoring the very first juice that is pressed off the grapes ("1er Jus") which tends to be more acidic and lively. This leads to a balanced wine that has both body/depth as well as acidity.

This pours a soft pale gold, like late afternoon sun. The nose is pure Macon - flinty minerality, wax, soft stone fruit, but there is an intriguing spice and depth, almost like an aged tequila. The palate is insane -- at first, it feels soft, restrained. Pure fruit, honey, wax, pastry. Then a building chorus of gunsmoke minerality and palate-tingling acidity. It lingers. It vibrates in the mouth.

Wowza. Another banger.

many things here, new things are:
> awarding UCI points for other disciplines like CX starting 2027, exact values/disciplines unannounced
> pro u23 riders can no longer ride .ncup races anymore, including l'avenir
> maximum height of bicycle rims for mass start road events at 65mm as of 1 January 2026
> minimum handlebar size at 40cm, even for femmes
> UCI made surplus of 9.1 CHF from 2021-24
im sure the u23 thing has been discussed before but this is the first place i've seen it confirmed. UCI points changes could be interesting.

I read the press release and it says 40cm measurement are outer to outer. the handlebars you buy have their width usually indicated center to center. so it's basically a 38cm handlebar as minimum.

also
> For bicycles used in the road (as of 1 January 2026) and track (as of 1 January 2027) disciplines, only a maximum internal fork width of 115 mm at the front and 145 mm at the rear (measured along the entire length of the front fork and rear triangle) will be permitted.
kek, the factor bike abomination Stewart won today on is already outdated.

also 1 more season of Star Wars helmets before UCI will ban those monstrosities
> The UCI Equipment Unit, in consultation with the Equipment and New Technologies Commission, will continue to work in detail on the subject of helmets, both in terms of approval procedures and specifications for the coming seasons. Members also granted the UCI Sports Department a mandate to introduce a helmet approval protocol which will be effective from 1 January 2027 at the earliest.

Cool bottle. One of my favorite parts about great restaurants is the somm turning me on to something I wouldn't otherwise have.

I don't drink as much white Rhone as I should, I really enjoy it. As mentioned previously, one of greatest whites of my life was Chave Hermitage Blanc. I actually recently had a South African Marsanne/Rousanne/Viognier blend which was really good and reasonable price like $25-30.

Agree for amateur races, but I sort of like the F1-style arms race of world tour TT tech

Also TT helmet are gone thank god. The weightweenies are seething about these rules but it's for the good of the sport. Especially these tiny handlebars, pretty sure these chutes merchant are all on tiny bars

Everything always converges towards nothing ever happens.
Embarrassing for Arabs and Persians, be this infiltrated and subsequently kwiked and kwaked, over and over and over again.
Wonder if Turkroaches would do any better or are the swarthoids inept in face of any type of organized enemy.

The new UCI rules are an absolute disaster. The 32cm between the narrowest part of the shifters basically means that all <40cm handlebars are now banned. Utterly ridiculous, especially since anyone who has actually used narrower handlebars knows that they are just as easy to handle in the bunch as wider ones, But this is the worst for smaller riders and women with <40cm shoulder widths who now have to sacrifice their ergonomics and comfort.
Also, the worth of my TooT bars basically plummeted to zero. Have to change the bars on my Quick pro as well for next season. Thanks UCI I guess, I feel much safer now.

 >>/16857/
I'm glad the UCI is doing something against the narrow handlebar trends. It adds nothing to racing and looks ridiculous. I wish they would ban riders from putting their little fingers on the hood like retards, but sadly, the first one to do that was Remco in Liege, so now they're stuck with this precedent.
Also the ban on TT helmet is a blessing. In general aero autism should stay in tri*thlon

 >>/16859/
Ban 20cm handlebars all you want, but there's absolutely no reason to put the limit to 40cm. For a majority of riders, 34-38cm is far more ergonomic and pleasant to ride than bigger bars.
Aero autism is here to stay. Modern speed suits add far far more speed than narrow hadnelbars and yet UCI has no problems with them.

 >>/16871/
Yes, the problem is when it looks ridiculous/unsafe. >>/16860/ This clearly is unsafe, same with TT helmet and peripheral vision. Regarding handle bar they put a limit somewhere probably they'll adjust a bit but they had to do something

 >>/16873/
I just measured my commuter bike and even 38 c-c is "unsafe" and banned since they measure 30cm between the shifters. Disgusting.
Nobody rides like the pic you posted in the bunch. With my narrowest handlebars I ride on the flared drops in the bunch, and only on the aero tops when I go in the breakaway.

that's his season and possibly his career over. that stuff is no joke

the race was always known as GP Gippingen by locals. organizers were a bit annoyed that everybody kept calling it the Gippingen race instead of GP des Kantons Aargau and simply renamed it back to the original name for this year.

assuming Matthews is forced to retire, it's nice his last race [eschborn-frankfurt] was a win instead of winning a g2 sprint behind, which probably would have been more fitting to his career.

Pellaud finished 2nd at Unbound gr*vel and also at Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Cup Tour of Thailand this season. pedalton shouldn't underestimate him.

2bf lots of people die before 70, my mom pays attention to obituaries and often tells me about how this or that person died who was only 60/50/40.
I did some quick digging and this study found that Tour de France participants from 1930-1964 lived on average 8 years longer than the general population.

my immediate intution is the life expectancy numbers could be skewed by ww2, but if not pretty impressive considering how much amphetamines the runners were on back then. sports can be neatly divided into the ones that increase and the ones that decrease life expectancy

You can also get permission to have national teams in WT races. There has been a Swiss team in Romandie several times and I know there will be a Danish one for the first edition of Copenhagen Sprint.
