Welcome to /g5g/, /endpone/'s offical Generation 5 thread! Love or it hate it, the fifth generation is almost upon us and thus necessitates a new thread.

I have no idea how this will work compared to the old FiM threads. Provisionally this thread will be for the movie and Season 1 of G5. If enough discussion is generated a separate thread will be made for each season like normal.

Hopefully we can at least some fun and enjoy some side aspects of this even if it turns out poor or more likely, mundanely average over being worthy of hype or hate.

As much as I feel more soured on it from what it implied with Twilight and the others. I don't think I completely hate the characters or concepts but execution left a lot to be desired. Looking back, perhaps the biggest waste was that BOTH the netflix series and YT shorts were dumbed down compared to FiM. Thus they didn't have a shot of inheriting both kids who grew up with FiM and the some larger chuck of the fandom.

 >>/11226/
Surprised I missed this post.

> The earnest fans of the show I've seen seem quite passionate about it, and that's in spite of the obvious strong hatred the show received from the fandom. So I can't help but respect people who not only love something so hate
> and that was with a huge supportive fandom still left intact. What the G5 fans are going to do and where they're going to go, I've no idea
A big question I have is how separated G5 and G4 fans are. I know there is an overlap but I've seen talk of a lot of G5 fans being zoomers who have a distaste for the old G4 fandom to some extent but I don't know if these are real dynamics or half made up dynamics that are more complicated Like, eh, Skibidi Toilet, the supposed "gen alpha" meme that is made by an old source film maker guy, any ol' person who even was partly familiar with SFM videos would know how surreal those could be at times.

> By which I mean not just that the sooner we get G6 the sooner we'll see which one of these it will be, but the sooner we get G6, if it's bad, the sooner we'll get G7 too, and G8 and so on until they bury the franchise, or manage to make it into something again.
That is like the most optimistic take on the corporate milking cycle. I am, while not completely cynical, more skeptical anything new from the franchise could ever hold my interest. Yet I get the sentiment. I have been debating going through and reviewing Pony Life. Even if it is kind of stupid and low quality, maybe I would be inspired by meme fuel or something. Some fun could still be had.

I tried watching the pilot for the series, but it was so annoying that I did not finish it. It reminded me of kids' cartoons from the early nineties where the characters talked like auctioneers, there were lights flashing everywhere, and everything reeked of old people trying to pander to the younger generation with ham-fisted tropes (now it's cellphones and live streaming; back then it was skateboards and video game consoles). The killer is that I could have gotten into the universe otherwise. The world has an interesting premise, enough that I could have even gotten beyond my distaste for 3DCG.

I can appreciate trying to cultivate new fans. G5 needed to do that after the G4 fanbase took a nosedive off a cliff about half-way through its run. Unfortunately, the formula they went with to do so is a painfully familiar one that was obviously developed by a marketing department. There is no myth to it and, like the premise itself, no magic.

 >>/12194/
> but it was so annoying that I did not finish it
Some episodes are stronger than others but yeah, that is completely understandable. I didn't f8nd it annoying but certainly weaker. It was a big downgrade from the movie, which had some promise.

> Unfortunately, the formula they went with to do so is a painfully familiar one that was obviously developed by a marketing department. There is no myth to it and, like the premise itself, no magic.
Yeah, I think that is exactly it's weakness. About halfway through. I tried to give it a chance in the context of a show aimed at a slightly younger audience and may still finish it. Some stuff I liked but it is far from G4, even Season 1 CMC feel.. IDK, more alive? This situation reminds me of Bionicle with both Hero Factory and G2, neither were bad per see, and the former might have been overly hated, but it was missing the myth and sense of wonder as the original.

> The killer is that I could have gotten into the universe otherwise. The world has an interesting premise, enough that I could have even gotten beyond my distaste for 3DCG.
Yeah, the background is kind of post-apocalyptic. Someone decribed it as a diet Fallout Equestira and that almost fits if you squint. Not that it had to be horribly dark, just that it had to something to it and more advanced ponies atop an old civilization trying to rediscover magic ain't a bad setting unto itself.

My biggest personal problem with G5 though probably was related to that almost darkness/attempt at depth when you put background lore together, it turns Twilight Sparkle's story into a tragedy with some choices that were questionable in universe.

 >>/12194/
It sort of gets better, but only for moments. The pegasi characters I liked and Misty has (slight) depth, but felt kind of boiler plate. It really does feel like a marketing driven show that was put together by a focus group in how they handle references to pop culture and setting.

 >>/12197/
> it was missing the myth and sense of wonder as the original.

That is a perfect way to describe it. Without it, some of the characters feel very flat. Pipp, Zip and their mom are the exceptions.

> diet Fallout Equestria

I believe some twitterfag called Wintergleam first coined that and really tried to push that idea. Maybe you ought to use nitter or something to look up her threads, bridgefag? Her approach to fandom analysis reminded me uncannily of what you tried to do in /go/. She got burned a bit by the drama of twitter and mostly abandoned the effort

Just a tiny announcement. In the wake of the chaos and unpredictability of Endchan, even if things have stabilized now, we want to make things extra stable. So, from this point onward, Celestia is being put in charge of this board and some changes maybe made, which should be minor.

Thanks y'all for keeping Endchan alive for all these years. Even if it has often been at a limp. People often don't value the fact that limping unsteadily for a few years is impression in an world of alt-chans where runs, and than trips and falls and dies, in a single year.

Making this thread on advice to do so since the thread I was using is apparently not so great.

I'm new here, stumbling in due to someone mentioning the existance of this site to me.
Figured I'd say hello and see what's up around here.

The name I typically go by is Raptor.

> Well, I'm glad that what I'm talking about is at least in part interesting.
yeah,well...you have opened the thread so... I am certainly listening for complementing it.

> yeah it's not really something I pay attentoin to much myself either aside from the pony thread.
well, different preferences, I guess. I mean, entitlement within anonymous circles doesn´t count very much (and it can easily backfire) but the interest wouldn´t be taken away from you so, the trade was worthwhile in the long run.

> yeah pretty much. moots an idiot.
just because one comes to the same conclusion that thousands of other people have already said for years doesn´t change at all the result. He´s no longer taking part in this game.

> I learned recently there's a ton of african words that aren't actually of any african language. A ton were added by europeans because they lacked a lot of concepts that europeans had at the time. a good example is the word future or tomorrow. But I know little else outside of that and a few other examples.

interesting. Even though it makes a lot of sense considering that writing systems were pretty much non-existent (with a handful of exceptions of course) and the illiteracy rates were downright dreadful at the time, let´s not going to lie ourselves.

Keep in mind that technology doesn´t simply apply to objects or digital devices, language stands as technology as well.

They had to build something out of nothing and they didn´t simply have the tools for expressing said concepts so, those imposed words would settle a shortcut for those concepts/words/expressions that would be seen as weird tools back then. But they wouldn´t offer any other alternative of communication that could compete against it so, it was pretty much bound to happen one way or another.

> think of it as filled with glowies and shills whose job it is to do nothing but post porn and interrupt any meaningful conversation. That's what it is now.
already verified by your post then. I read about its status due to other anons that happened to talk about it every now and then but it seems that /b/ still continues that same path that it has been taking for these last few years as the main board for teenagers who want to be edgy and believe that they are doing something special and it just becomes the playground for messing around. We haven´t been missing anything from that board, have we?

> That makes it interesting in an of itself, doesn't it? an unchanging place of old guard?
does 2017 (or 2016 for the creation of this board) count as something worthy to qualify as old at this point? I mean, the internet makes things feel old pretty fast but still, those are big words in my eyes.

> I havne't looked much through the catalogue yet, is there any threads you'd recommend
pretty much what I haven´t hidden in these two screencaps. I think that the 5 NMAiE generals (the equivalent of the MLP General) should give you an index of the main relevant threads that have been popping up over time as well as some works from the main users.

> yeah something like that, who is CB?
someone who definitely stands out for writing Conversion Bureau stories that have been shared around here. Also, he is the main active user for the /webm/ thread as well as some of the MLP music that he shares around there. His main threads are >>/7485/ and >>/4724/.

By the way, he is the oldest user of this place by a long shot (even close to being an original user when the 8chan migration test occurred) but we had to figure out to his status indirectly, he doesn´t claim that by himself. For the most part, there are some subtleties and indirect puns in order to send a hidden message throughout his posts at times, so he...is Outside this place, IIRC I think that he has a Twibooru profile for his activity in other circles as well as turning into the owner (?) of /8pone/ for keeping it alive to some degree.

> it wasn't so much political, it was the fact that a major chain of gaming media outlets were blackmailing people and taking bribes, including the demand for sex, in order to guarantee good reviews of games, irrespective of if the game was good or not.had very little to do with poltics, but of course the journalists who were caught out decided to make it about politics and started crying about all sorts of unrelated things.

oh boy, corruption and suitcases full of money in order to give those valuable 9s and 10s for unfinished games that wouldn´t get a pass under normal circumstances. Corruption as its finest and that doesn´t surprise me in the slightest. I understand a little bit better why /v/ considers gaming journalism as a job that is more frowned upon than anything else. Just another layer on top of a really messed up industry that focuses on clicks and fast articles (lack of infrastructure and academia except for retro gaming stuff).

> what is the name you go by?
I don´t think that a lurker (who has been pretty much retired from being active in this place for these last couple of years) matters all that much. You´ll instantly figure it out as soon as you begin to delve into this board, anyway.

Look in the BookFort thread to find them, if you like. I've never felt it was finished enough to publish it on FiMfiction but some have liked what they've seen.

> For the most part, there are some subtleties and indirect puns in order to send a hidden message throughout his posts
I just finished listening to Vaceslav singing about this topic.

I mentioned somewhere around here that Ponies at Dawn were releasing an album? It includes an EDM remake of Scarborough Fair.

I think that he has a Twibooru profile
Twibooru is down ATM though, so there isn't that.

I was able to find a "scared Sweetie Belle" .stl file on Thingiverse. Haven't tried printing it yet because the printer is broken - again - but since I'm trying to wind down for the start of my work-week tomorrow, I'll end with a recharging sweetiebot instead.

eeeyup, that completes the whole lineup of main users that use this site.

I forgot about that while I was typing it. Hopefully enough, all your works happen to be registered on FIMFiction or somewhere else because it facilitates the diffusion of said works with a greater chance to stand the test of time among those who read said works.

> Scarborough Fair
thanks for reminding that I can play that song...quite the opposite from that musical blast, I must say

> Twibooru is down ATM though, so there isn't that.

at the time, it wasn´t working. Visiting the site right now is a whole different story, however...

...that is to say, you still exist.

About three, but can you pick a less corrupt thread to speak in?
The browser I usually use collapses the no-image imageholder space and I can't look at this thread without switching to the index, then bringing up the initial post by number, then clicking reply.

I mean, you could create a "new thread for foreigners" or something...

Anyway, three mainly and a few stragglers that keep poking their nose through the door a few times a year.

So, we have names, since there's so few of us.
CB - for writing in the Conversion Bureau universe
Bridgefag, for being the BO on a board about bridges, and long ponies who look like bridges.
Carrots - who, in addition to liking NMM, talking fish, and bondage, also likes carrots.

...So, as you can imagine, those aren't really our names, but we call each other that anyway. I don't know L23's story.

What's yours? How shall we call you?

Howdy stranger. What brings you around to these parts?

> I leave my session code here

Session code? I assume this is something related to discord or steam I use neither While /endpone/ and it's anons are relatively tamer compared to some boards I'd be careful on sharing social media links blindly on imageboards like this without knowing anything about the place.

If you end up staying here for more than a couple of moments a thing to keep in mind this board has its own culture that is a bit different:
 >>/5559/

...and thus our rules and customs reflect that:
> It's actually okay to show a bit of a personal side here. This was not done as a choice but how our board evolved. With two or three anons there is not much of a veil to hide behind. Still, unless you are doing some kind of OC or project don't namefag or tripfag.

Though I don't use that either so I have no personal experience with how their software works/looks.
Kind of like how that PonyRealism checkpoint doesn't know who/what sweetie-bot is, seen initially in the rain, before later separating her from said rainfall.

That is a good Pony Robot OC though.

Eh, possibly. I just have sometimes seen people wander blind rather stupidly. Feels like a weird move for someone who would have the grasp of the cultures in places like this to blindly through some social link out like that. Now, among friends and casual discussion chans a lot of people do know each other on social media and I like having contact links myself but that is with ingroups who know each other already.

I have never left. It´s just that I don´t show myself in the public for a discourse. I just simply let my actions speak, as you may have noticed.

As for the board owner, I´ve known him closely and he´s been struggling with significant struggles in several fronts.

Welcome to Golden Oaks! Sit back and get /comfy/ and dive into the vast amounts of data across the web that has been generated by the MLP fandom.

What is Golden Oaks?
Golden Oaks is /endpone/'s archival and analysis thread devoted to the rather broad topic of the fandom itself. Active archival is a major feature, but a variety of topics are also active points of discussion. From analysis of trends and situations, to self reflection and representation (Some /tech/ discussion related to that end is welcome as well!).

What is Golden Oaks not?
Golden Oaks is not for the simple dissuasion of the latest scandal within the fandom or gossip about X. These subjects maybe relevant at times in the discussion of certain happenings and periods within the fandom, but the thread itself shouldn't dive into drama without reason.

What is this place?
This is the Endchan's pony board. While we are microscopic we have regular posting and a fairly distinct culture as can be with a handful of anons and drifters. /go/ welcomes outside contributions. Feel free to look around.
Current /NMAiE/: >>/8915/

Announcement!
A new thread has been created: >>/10356/ /culture/ (...and More!) for better discussion of certain niche topics and deep dives when this thread is too cluttered or topics that maybe too tangential but still useful.
