What the actual fuck

> So, apparently this is something the LessWrong website does now. I guess that’s one way of solving the deeply nested threads problem…

Depends.
Why does the universe never get destroyed, despite how often it gets close? Is it because of insane but unreliable luck, or because of the anthropic principle, or because there's some sort of physical law that something will always stop it, no matter how bad the odds?

 >>/6266/
Good question, but if you're headed down that road you've got to also consider "why does the world never stay saved?" and "where were all these threats before the superheroes started showing up recently?"

Did y'all read this book? What did you think? I already bought the thesis before opening it, but it was fun seeing all the specific behaviors explored.

It feels like a slight information hazard though. Not sure if I should recommend it to normies.

> “But you're my little sister,” I said. “We can't… *I* can't do it, it's *wrong*.”

> “And yet you can’t *not* do it, can you? Ultimately, humans are just state machines. Every stimulus”—here she looked me in the eye and started to lazily shrug off her pink pajamas top, exposing a nipple—“triggers a chain reactions of chemicals and firing neurons, which eventually lead to a response.” She glanced downwards and smiled knowingly.

tl;dr:
Naive unenlightened causal decision makers will reason that their vote almost certainly won't make a difference so it isn't worth the effort.
Yudkowskian hyper-rationalist functional decision makers will reason that whatever decision they make will also be the decision made by all other Yudkowskian hyper-rationalist functional decision makers, so if they vote that means all of the fifteen other people who read the paper will vote, but if they don't vote then none of those other people will vote.
Hansonian econo-sociologist selfish-aware decision makers have long ago realized that there is only signals and the void and will vote not to influence the outcome of the elections but to get the status benefits of political engagement.

Of course you can, but it's much easier to maintain a coherent natural impression if you believe it, and it's easier to believe it if you act it out.
Perhaps more importantly, you can be seen visiting the voting booth and having a sticker you got for it and all that, and if you're going through that trouble anyway then actually casting a vote doesn't carry an additional cost. You can hide what you voted, and thanks to blank votes it's technically possible to hide whether you voted, but that doesn't stop you from sending a credible signal that you voted.

I am pretty confident that Peter Thiel is Roko's Basilisk.

For one, it was strange Eliezer got so upset about the post. It seems very plausible that Peter Thiel is doing more than just funding Eliezer, LessWrong, MIRI, and OpenAI. I have a feeling he has threatened these people and is planning on taking over the entire universe.

I would certainly attempt a coup on the entire universe if I was well-positioned to do so. My dream and top preference is definitely to become the singularity and be a supercomputer which spans the lightcone.

There's also the fact that Thiel is notoriously skilled with his tongue in public speaking as, of course, the serpent in the bible was! It's confirmed!

The meme was all right when it was just a phrase or the emoji combination 🤡🌐 (which is has been for a long time). Frogposting sucks. It's like reddit taking and still clinging to ragefaces.

It seems to me like there is nothing constructive about e-celeb threads.
Regarding zero, I like Gig Economy but most of his twitter ramblings are just there to dogmatize his following. Like just look at that awful "incel weaboo" tweet that kinda makes sense when you first look at it but doesn't make sense at all except if you buy the whole lovecraftian landian post-rat guru schlick.

Also from this thread where someone quoted him:
> If a man speaks his inner thoughts and compulsions in an honest way, it will sound to most women like the shrieking of a demon.
I'm not sure if you are aware but this is how people currently imagine incels sounding like.

 >>/6179/
The rationalist diaspora is an e-celeb thread.

As for Zero, you are taking him too literally. He seems never to be 100% serious, and this thread has gone in the direction of collecting his most lulzy takes. Though he is probably more serious about the shrieking than about the anime.

> crazy breeders
Breeding is sane. It's the one value actually explicitly handed to us by nature, and here you are ignoring it and gazing into the abyss. The point of being intelligent, physically strong, healthy and knowledgeable is to reproduce. And you know it.

> the one value actually explicitly handed to us by nature
Unless you're exploited or group selected, instead of trying to get antinatalist types to breed they could be encouraged to become suicide fighters.
